🛠 Building an independent app business in public 🟪 Making the best habit tracking app out there: habitkit.app 💡 Sharing my learnings about development, marketing and sales
FocusKit's July revenue wasn't good, wasn't bad either. Happy to keep it stable at ~$500 per month right now.
Feels like tooting my own horn, but I have to say, I really love the new FocusKit Mac companion app I've been building 😎
Never noticed this before, but while going through my Google Search Console I saw that habitkit.app is actually generating some impressions 😲 Most clicks came from a direct "HabitKit" search. I’d love to shift that toward queries like "habit tracker" or "habit app".
Looking for a batch of fresh HabitKit beta testers, that are interested in joining the TestFlight and checking out the new design refresh for version 1.16.0. If you're interested, send me a DM!
It’s 2026. AI is moving at breakneck speed. You still have to wait days for Google to approve your build for closed alpha testing though.
The next habitkit.app version will get a notes section to record the cause of your success/failure 👌
Currently working on a small design refresh for HabitKit. What do you think?
The only self-help book you will ever need! Re-read this once per year and you're set for life 🙌
First time using Claude Design, for a HabitKit UI refresh. It's actually pretty good making subtle changes and making improvements to an existing design... impressed with the results 👌
Finally released the latest tryfocuskit.com update: You can now have a subtle tick during focus sessions. Three sounds to pick from: a Soft Tick, a Metronome, and a Pong blip. There's a volume slider, and the little metronome button in the toolbar pulses along with the beat.
Growth for my app tryfocuskit.com has been super slow since it's launched, but the past couple of days have been great. Next steps: Release the Mac companion app and then increase prices!
Mac users: for a focus or timer app, do you prefer it in the system bar or as a full window? Building FocusKit for Mac right now and curious. I feel like system bar is the right choice... 🤔
Building the native MacOS companion for tryfocuskit.com, this will be awesome! Keeping it lean, the first iteration will live on the system bar.
Let’s say I rewrote habitkit.app using native technologies and shipped the top ten most requested features in one sweep. Do you think existing users could handle that many changes in a single update? 🤔
Adding more sounds to tryfocuskit.com: It's really hard to find good sound effects. Can anyone recommend good resources? Would love to extend the sound library with future updates!
Downgrading my Cursor subscription for the first time in two years. All my work is happening in Claude Code and Codex at the moment.
Anybody else feel a little disappointed by the announced Siri changes? I feel like this could’ve been “bigger.” The Fable release yesterday made me way more excited than everything Apple announced at WWDC 🤔
Themes for tryfocuskit.com are here: a selection of beautiful color schemes to make the app feel more yours. Update now and enjoy 🙌
Vibe-coding my own app/website blocker with Claude Code: Now I have a statistics screen to see where my screen time is going 👌
Found some time to work on my website/app blocker. Adding maximum friction for distractions 👌 Rules are protected by password and you also need to type in a reason + wait for 60s if you want to alter a rule!
Revenue update for my app tryfocuskit.com: May was great in comparison to April, hope we're growing again! Over $600 in revenue 🙌
Finally managed to get over 100 ratings with tryfocuskit.com, thanks to everyone who took the time and left one, I really appreciate it! 🙏
I've been vibecoding on a native website/app blocker app for MacOS, basically my own Opal. Exclusively done in Claude Code, had a lot of fun building it! The additional friction to type a reason why you want to unblock a site/app, really helps me focus!
I am really in love with the new color theme options I created for the next tryfocuskit.com update. And the last couple of days have been great in terms of sales too. Feels like making progress 💪
Just released the latest tryfocuskit.com version with these features: • Landscape mode for the Focus Timer view • CSV export • Theme picker in Preferences • Icon color picker in Preferences
Adding a new "Theme" section to tryfocuskit.com! This will be a killer feature 👌
Added a cool changelog to the tryfocuskit.com website. I never kept track of changes in my other apps, and I kind of regret it. It’s fun to look back and see what you’ve shipped!
The light theme update for tryfocuskit.com is now available. Feels good to finally get this off my chest, kind of dumb to have started without it 😅
