Turns out he was right when he said this in 1859, and it's looking more and more like this will be true again now.
Although it probably means I'll never attend an Olympics in person. I'm OK with the Summer Games being permanently based in Greece where they all began. I took the picture below of Panathenaic Stadium, home of the 1896 Olympics, last summer on my trip to Greece.
