Something a little different to the usual anti-piracy injunction. A temporary injunction was imposed on sites hosting The Odyssey ahead of its release, after an urgent application by Universal .

This urgent application for interlocutory relief came before me as duty judge. In the substantive proceeding, the applicants seek orders requiring the respondents to block access to “pirate” target online locations (TOLs). It is alleged that the TOLs in question infringe or facilitate the infringement of the applicants’ copyright in cinematograph films.

The urgent relief sought relates to 32 TOLs that foreshadow the availability for accessing the upcoming film, “The Odyssey” (Odyssey TOLs), which is due for release in Australia on 16 July 2026 and in France on 15 July 2026, with the remaining worldwide release scheduled for 17 July 2026.

The respondents are internet service providers. They are on notice of the originating application, the interlocutory application and that the interlocutory application was listed to be heard by me on 9 July 2026. While none of the respondents appeared at the hearing of the interlocutory application, they have indicated either consent or no opposition to the proposed orders (or orders in materially the same form as the proposed orders).

I am satisfied that reasonable steps have been taken by the applicants to contact the owners or operators of the Odyssey TOLs and to provide them with information about the hearing today of the interlocutory application. Those efforts for the most part received automatic responses. I accept the evidence that none of the owners or operators of the Odyssey TOLs have engaged in any meaningful way with the applicants’ efforts.

Australian Space Agency:
The Australian Space Agency is advising Queensland authorities and the National Emergency Management Agency following the discovery of several unidentified objects at Forrest Beach.

The recovered objects appear to be pressure vessels from a space launch vehicle. The Agency has identified the likely source. The objects’ location and characteristics are consistent with debris from a foreign rocket body that recently re-entered the atmosphere from orbit. The Agency is continuing to engage with international authorities to formally confirm the launch vehicle and launching state.

Queensland emergency responders have assessed and recovered the objects and determined them to be safe.

Further debris may be found. Never touch, move or recover suspected space debris and assume it to be hazardous until advised otherwise. Move away and contact emergency services.

The federal government has launched court action against 3M over PFAS contamination

The Commonwealth has commenced legal action in the Federal Court of Australia against 3M Australia Pty Ltd and 3M Company for damages to recover costs relating to per- and poly-fluoroaklyl substances (PFAS) contamination at 28 Defence bases across Australia.

PFAS are chemicals that are contained in legacy firefighting foams for many years, including on Defence sites. PFAS-containing foams are no longer used in Australia due to concerns linked to environmental contamination.

The Commonwealth’s case includes allegations that:

3M withheld a range of information and misrepresented the effects of 3M’s aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF). This included what it knew about the environmental risks of AFFF;
3M did not fully disclose what it knew about the environmental risks of AFFF; and
3M gave assurances about disposal and environmental safety that were inconsistent with what the company knew at the time.

This action will see the Commonwealth seek damages to recover significant costs taxpayers have carried for investigating, managing and remediating contamination resulting from 3M’s AFFF containing PFAS.
