Happy birthday! I have this book you edited. I've played a few games from it and had some great times. Also, the intro is excellent primer on a whole bunch of ttrpg concepts.

Down-Mountain is a competitive gambling mini-game between two or more players, using Fabula Ultima’s standard polyhedral dice (d6, d8, d10, d12). The object of the game is to achieve the lowest total score without going bust.
Gameplay
At the start of a round, each player pays an agreed-upon ante into the pot (usually 5 zenit), then rolls 2d12. Leave your dice on the table in front of you.
Play moves in turns clockwise around the table, beginning with the previous round’s winner (or the oldest player if it’s the first round). On your turn, you must either roll or stake:
Roll. Discard one of your dice, then replace it with a roll of the next smallest die size. (Eg. discard a d12, roll a d10 to replace it.) Any d6, as well as any die showing 1, cannot be discarded.
Stake. Take no more turns this round. If you have two d6s in front of you, you must stake.
If you ever have double 1s (a fumble), you go bust and are out of the round.
Turns continue until all players have either staked or gone bust. At the end of the round, each player adds the values on their dice together, and the player with the lowest total score wins the pot.
If two or more players are tied for the lowest score, they split the pot as evenly as possible, leaving any remainder in the pot for the next round. If all players are tied (or if all players somehow go bust), the entire ante remains in the pot for the next round.

When introducing people to the wider #ttrpg hobby outside of #dnd, it's important to remember that people don't know what they don't yet know, and they shouldn't be shamed for not knowing it yet. Instead of shaming them, get excited about the new stuff they're about to contact. The xkcd about it:

If I make fun of people, I train them not to tell me when they have those moments. And I miss out on the fun.
