Pop music critic at the St. Paul Pioneer Press. All shade very necessary. Former dancer at the Grind. World weary, cynical arbiter of taste. Proud Union member. Gen X.
Not sure if it's the weather or a bug, but I felt like crap yesterday and worse today. Patric is picking up the Special (sausage, mushrooms, green peppers and onions) deep dish pizza from the new Giordano's outlet at the Mall and we're going to watch the new Culture Club doc. Maybe that will fix me
Next up, the excellent second single from Carly Rae Jepsen's upcoming album. I love the house piano! www.youtube.com/watch?v=lASH...
Two absolute bangers out today. First up, Michelle Branch has rerecorded the brilliant the Game of Love as a duet with the guy who (co-)wrote it, Gregg Alexander of the New Radicals. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkNc...
Did this today. I used granny smith apples, herb turkey, Swiss cheese and honey mustard on the parmesan black pepper bread. Not quite Figlio, but still tasty.
We had burgers last night with Rhonda at the 620. RIP Vern. I miss you.
My estranged sister still texts me (sometimes insults, sometimes photos of her kids) and sends me random stuff in the mail. My dad's estate is settled and I've told her I want no contact with her. Today she sent me this photo of me and my dad. No idea what was going on. It's from the late 90s.
I made dinner. Ancient grain bread, pizza sauce (Primal Kitchen, which is awesome), pizza blend cheese, pickled red onions, banana peppers and fresh cherry tomatoes from the back porch. (Patric loves the burnt cheese bits around the edges)
Costco tip: The chicken tikka masala sandwiches you can find in the refrigerated section are fantastic. We're having them yet again tonight with some hot mango chutney
In case you are wondering what the $3,500 Lynyrd Skynyrd “Ultimate Experience” ticket will get you, thank @tedspreigl.bsky.social (who should really ditch the other place and come back here):
2/2: and pulled a second blanket over him. I was, like, I feel you brother. You can see him in this uncropped photo that ran with my story.
I'm at opening night at the new Mystic Lake Amphitheater in Shakopee
Haircut 100 have reunited, notably with much less hair than the old days
Some good news on a dreary day. Gus found the stick we left him last night.
Finally got around to cracking this open. I'm sitting on the deck enjoying the gorgeous afternoon.
What you're missing on Threads (Jim Steinman's Bat Out of Hell: The Musical debuted in London in 2018 and has toured the US)
Last year, we visited Thom's grave in Roseville. We left a pie in his honor, the candle was already there. Planning to visit again this month.
It was working on my phone and now is back on my laptop. Big relief as I'm currently obsessed with the (terribly named) Australian group Miami Horror.
We just started a rewatch of Survivor Game Changers. It's got Sandra, Cirie, dumbass Ozzy, Aubrey and two of my all-time favorites, Michaela and Zeke.
