We’re incredibly grateful to Greater Manchester and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Services for their continued efforts tackling the fire. Remember: in hot, dry conditions, it only takes one spark to start a wildfire. Please take extra care outdoors this summer and help keep people and wildlife safe.

Pack a picnic or use reserve cafés instead of cooking outdoors.

If cooking is permitted, use a stove rather than an open fire.

Take all litter and food waste home with you.

Keep glass bottles and other reflective objects out of direct sunlight, and take home with you.

If you spot a fire, call 999 immediately and share your location (e.g. using What3Words).

WE HAVE AVOCET NEWS!!! An Avocet spotted at RSPB Middleton Lakes has been confirmed as the oldest ever recorded in the UK. At 36 years old, it's lived more than five times longer than the species' average lifespan. First ringed in 1990, it's still out there doing Avocet things. Go on Avocet. 😍

Swifts don’t stop to feed their chicks one insect at a time. Instead, they collect hundreds in a special pouch in their throat, then head back to the nest with a little insect-packed parcel. It can contain up to 1,000 insects. 🤯 Check out that throat pouch 👇 📷 @mart-the-gooner.bsky.social

This week's forecast? HOT. 🥵 When temperatures soar, a shallow dish of water can be a lifeline for birds, hedgehogs, bees and other garden visitors. Remember to replace it with fresh water daily, and if you can, add a few pebbles so smaller creatures have somewhere safe to land and drink.
