Guess what this critter I found in the garden yesterday is! I will answer in the comments tomorrow.
Some recent photos in the garden. The Common Wood-Nymph Butterfly (Cercyonis pegala) was in the wooded area (hence the ferns), and the Widow Skimmer Drangonflies (Libellula luctuosa) were in the meadow.
Update, The American Lotus seed I sandpapered 1st, sprouted 1st. That one and the lotus already in the cylinder glass vessel were planted in my large pot outside with more direct & longer sunlight. The species has low genetic diversity, each are different sources and so hopefully also gene pools.
Been a bit. Since my last post I have managed to photograph a bunch of the little flying beasties while at rest and a golden crab spider. (See Alt text for species ID) 🧵1/2
Growing more American Lotus so I can transplant the two I grew indoors into the big pot outside (3 in that pot did not take, water changes were needed) The new sprouts will take their place indoors. This time I am experimenting with two different approaches to see which, if at all, perform better.
9am, July 16th, 12026 H.E. Manitoulin iland The morning is pale grey, the appearance of fog. The sun, a red disc hanging above through the haze. When the door was opened the scent of smoke spilled in, but this time not near as strong and more akin to sitting beside a very smokey campfire.
10 am, July 15th, 12026 H.E. The wildfire smoke is so thick the day appears dusk, we turn on lights to see. Outside is a haze of orange as though looking through fogged tinted glass, cameras poorly capture the color. As the day goes on the smoke thickens like a dense fog, the orange color deepens.
Just did a survey from the Liberal Party of Canada and used all the text available to share my piece on what I would like to see from the party and Prime Minister Mark Carney 🧵1/11 "Publish an actionable plan that transitions Canada away from Oil Dependency, especially on foreign owned companies.."
I am seeing a lot of butterflies on the property, but are really hard to snap photos of! Of those I could not catch of photo of were Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and Monarch. These three little flutterbugs (a term I use for both moths and butterflies) were who I could photograph. Names in Alt Text,
Just finished making this ornate bushcraft deer fence gate. The posts are discarded cleared trees from my yard and/or neighbor's (saved for years for such projects). Woven sisal rope, cedar branches, and stone counter-weight that keeps the top branch raised.
Pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus), Turtle Island's (North America's) largest woodpecker, visited our yard today. I line my paths / bordered my garden beds in my rewilded / young climated adapted native food forest with old logs that have had many woodpecker visits over the years. #Rewild
Laws only matter to the Republican Regime if they are leverage, otherwise are completely disregarded. If there is a time for mass civil disobedience its now. Anything they try to shut down, ignore their demands. Virginia, ignore them, listen to the people and Redistrict anyway.
This is it. The glove has been thrown down out in the open without hiding intent. The Republican Party are admiting to be Confederates. The Cold Civil War is now Hot. #USPolitics #USA #USpoli #USColdCivilWar Click to view full image
Sandhill Crane visited this morning. Two days ago they were flying in for a direct landing but saw us humans and noped off. I am finsihing the south deer fencing and gates this week, and I am wondering if the sandhill crane will be landing here after that. #Wildlife #Rewild #NorthenOntario #Canada
White Ash was the best performing tree for wattle fencing - these were cut down last autumn and were still very flexible the following spring! An axe made quick work of the debranching that was left to do. I hope to finish closing the backyard next week and plant my many shrubs and tree that arrived
My Spring Activities! Finished my Bushcraft Wattle Deer Fence out of the trees that Rewilded naturally on my property! Any that were not suitable for wattle fencing were put with the brushpile deer barrier made earlier this spring. I am now installing posts for the south side that will be netted 1/2
The sandhill cranes returned again this year, same pair as last year and the year before that was the adolescent male who was a regular throughout the summer of 12024 H.E.
Looked out my window a moment ago assessing for Spring Garden plans and saw a Mourning Cloak Butterfly that had come out of hibernation puddling on the still damp path 🦋😊
When reading on how rights have been won - for Women, Black, Indigenous, and Disabled People - they were always fought for. The majority Public Opinion already supports Immigration. Now its time to heap more pressure on the Representatives, especially since they now Avoid Public Consultations.
Ranked Choice solves All the problems with First Past The Post without any of the problems of Proportional Representation, while maintaining the point of the Desire for PR - every vote matters, end strategic voting, address voter apathy, and have a government that actually represents their citizens
If you follow EU politics (TLDR news) you see how fractious PR systems are and regularly stagnates government. This has a common result of compromising with fringe parties to form a majority coalition. This is how parties based on xenophobia have gotten into government in the EU 🧵2/3
This morning the Whitetailed Deer (Odocoileus virginianus) had synchronized their pee pose and dance (urinating on thier tarsal glands). #WhitetailedDeer #Deer #GardenWildlife #RewildedGarden #Wildlife #Ontario #Canada /|\

Identifying as "White" is, by its very design, saying you are a bootlicker. I know it can be confusing but that is how its always been since "White People" were invented in 1681. For an explanation, read the alt text in the image or the following thread #White #Racism #WhitePrivilege
On snow covered winter morning in a Rewilded Garden in Northern Ontario Canada, A Whitetailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) licks the face of another deer the deer that received the face lick raises their hoof to push away other deer. What captions do you think the deer should have?
In a snow covered forest scene, a Whitetailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) Raises themselves up on their hind legs, plucks an Eastern White Pine sprig (Pinus strobus) off the tree and eats the pine needles casually
In a snow covered forest scene, a Whitetailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) balances on their front legs, dropping their haunches, and wiggles their hind legs beneath them.
