Mobile: Simply go down to where it says Notifications (in the green box) and you'll see Morgan's pings (and every other server you're in). I hope this helps! Grey boxes on top of Morgan's messages for privacy <3
Desktop: Go to the upper right hand corner and hit the box looking thing inside the green box. This is your inbox. Next, hit the mentions tab and you'll find the pings a lot easier! Grey boxes placed for message privacy, but just hit the icons in the green boxes.
Oh-! One last thing about emojis, you can "react" to a comment or post. Hover over the comment, then select the three dots in the corner of a comment. It'll open a menu and you can go to the react menu. This will open an emoji menu. Select one, then it'll appear below the comment.
Finally, we have our search bar. This is where you can search the channel for specific conversations. The search bar will immediately pop up suggestions in order to better search for usernames, mentions, from users, etc...You don't have to fill out everything, these are just suggestions.
Next, the people button lets you show or hide the list of people who are in the discord server with you. It's very straightforward. I don't want to dox my community, but you can try it out for yourself!
Next we have the pin. Opening up the pin will give you all the pinned messages that are in a discord channel. Pins basically highlight important messages so they don't get lost in conversation. If something is pinned, Discord will notify the text channel. More in the Alt text!
Next is the notification bell. This is another easy way to access notification settings for that INDIVIDUAL channel! You'll see the same stuff we've seen when dealing with notification settings like in our previous thread.
From left to right we see a thread spool, a bell, a pin, and a pair of people in it. Let's start off with the thread. You can break out discussions into Discord threads. Let's say you're in a BB text channel and you want to talk about an individual non-current season. More in the Alt text
Now let's move on from the text message box and into some other neat Discord features that are a little less obvious. Here, we'll be taking a look at the upper part of your screen and look at these tools here.
Lastly, you have the 🎮 button. This basically lets you search for apps and activities. You can launch game activities from here or you can look at command lists if your discord server has a bot management system--this isn't Ai fyi. Just management tools. You probably won't have to use this tbh.
One more thing about emojis/emotes. Each emoji has a name to them. You might see that name spelled out in your text message like :joy: . Emojis have names so if you know the name of the emoji you want to use, you can type it in easily instead of searching for it. This includes custom emojis.
Next to your stickers button we have a regular emoji. This is where you can find all your standard emojis. The server you're in is likely to have custom emojis in their server as well. If you don't have Discord Nitro you can only use those custom emojis in the server you're in.
Next to the Gif button you have this weird little square with a happy face in it. It kinda looks like a sticker almost. That's because it's well...a sticker. Think of stickers like BIG emojis mixed with a Gif. Some stickers have animations to them, others don't, but they're just big emojis tbh.
Next you'll find the Gif button! This is fairly self explanatory, but click this button and you'll be able to send Gifs. Just note that your Gif sends separately from your text chat message. Clicking on a Gif will automatically send it to the text channel you're in.
Opening the gift box will give you a Discord Nitro Subscription pop up. This is what this looks like. More info in the Alt text!!
Let's go over them! Starting with the Gift box. The gift box sends you to a pop up that asks you to select a Discord Nitro Subscription. For most of you, you don't need to buy any Discord Nitro subscription. There are added benefits depending on the plan you get, but you don't need it tbh.
You may have noticed the text bar has some additional buttons you should be aware of! From left to right we have a gift box, GIF, a weird square with a happy face in it, then something that looks like an emoji next to it, then a game controller. We'll go over these in the next post!!! Stay tuned!!
Posting a comment is straightforward over on discord. Once you navigate to the # text channel you want to talk in, go to the typing bar that says "Message # name of the channel." Then type away! There are some other features here that you might find handy. We'll go over those next.
That's pretty much it on how to mute stuff on discord! There's one more important channel I need to go over before I forget. If you see a book with a check mark inside of it, this is a very important channel to take a look at!! This is where you'll see the server rules so you don't get evicted!!!
Finally, Mute New Events. Servers can utilize a function known as an Event. Essentially if you're familiar with Facebook Events, that's basically all it is, but here you can choose to mute getting those types of notifications if the server you're in has upcoming events.
If you're in multiple servers, you'll have a list of icons on the side. If you're only in one server, that's okay too! You'll still have that server in your icons list. It should look similar to this. That's your server list. Left-click on the icon, then you'll see the Mute Server Options.
Let's cover how to deal with muting channel notifications cause that can be overwhelming (and discords notifs can be annoying!) Let's start off with muting an individual channel. Simply hover over the channel you want to mute, right-click it, then select mute channel and it'll give you options
This'll be the last channel I'll cover, but this'll get you through most of discord. If you see this little megaphone icon, this is a channel dedicated to announcements from the discord owner/mods. As a note, the server owner may use a regular text channel for announcements too. Be on the lookout!
One more thing about Voice Chats! It's a hidden feature, but if you hover over the voice chat channel, you should get access to a text based channel that pops open on the side as well if you don't have a mic and still want to participate in the voice chat.
