The Indigo Milkcap - Lactarius indigo. Found - Jefferson County, Kentucky.
Unfortunately, the photo angle didn’t show its blue as much. You can tell from my fingers (next photos) that it is very blue! The Indigo Milkcap - Lactarius indigo. Yes, I eat these. My 3rd time this year. (Cook well) - Jefferson County, Kentucky.
Pawpaw trees are like friends to me. Love their broad shade cover and vivid greens. (Pardon the leaf smack)
The City Nature Challenge has one more day for you to document species 4/27/26. We saw this today. It was a lot more interesting flipping my phone for the underside view. - “Eastern American Platterful Mushroom” (Megacollybia rodmanii) - #Louisville Project link: www.inaturalist.org/projects/cit...
#citynaturechallenge Louisville, Kentucky is underway! Document the biodiversity in our city during this bioblitz. April 24-27, 2026. Please only document *wildlife* not cultivated/domesticated species.
This is the view from the opposite end. Coal as far as the eye can see…
Another American killed by ICE! Again, we have our government saying something completely different than what we see in videos & hear from witnesses.
The 2025 Fungi Industry as shared by @mycostories. Feedback on any of these? 🍄🟫🍄 (I have a few comments i will add later.)
Went to the Douglas Loop farmers market, and had the best time! There are so many nice vendors there. I bought oyster mushrooms, focaccia, cheeses, sauce, jam and lip balm. Got to talk in Italian too! #louisville #buylocal
Bernheim Forest hike was great after i had been under the weather. Fresh air and sunshine. #bernheimforest
Yes! I saw this great play at Louisville’s Actor’s Theatre recently about FDR that reminded me of all these points. www.actorstheatre.org/events/fdrs-...
Found this skull part on my remote hike. iNaturalist community says it’s a raccoon. One said it was really old. Interesting. No other bones around it. #zooarchaeology
At Bernheim’s BugFest last weekend, the USDA had these brilliant coasters educating the public on how destructive the spotted lantern fly can be to crops (hops🍺 and vineyards🍇). Last is my #spottedlanternfly costume. They are an invasive species making their way south to us in KY. 😱
This pretty vine is called Wilkweed Angelpod. It is a native plant that can grow up to 10 feet. It had such pretty dark and shiny leaves. It gets those milkweed pods that i loved playing with as a kid with long silky-stringed seeds. (Central Kentucky) #Gonolobussuberosus
Chicken of the Woods. I don’t eat meat. This mushroom has a surprisingly large amount of protein, 10+grams! It is one of my favorites to find and it is one that you can wash, cut and freeze for later too. #MushroomForaging
Found some Chicken of the Woods on my day off! It is a choice edible mushroom. It had been really dry and then rained just a bit, so it took on odd finger-like shapes. And, yes, it tastes like chicken. #Laetiporussulphureus #kentucky
Creasey Mahan Nature Preserve in Goshen, KY. A beautiful, short visit. It had been forever since I had been out there.
#bigbeautifulbill is planned to screw most of us but will be on a delay so republicans can wait until after midterms. #trickery
The Brood XIV periodical cicadas, ("Bourbon Brood") are out now in Kentucky and other neighboring states. The emergence of this brood , happens every 17 years. They don’t sting or bite, they are protein for birds and animals, and then fertilizer for the soil at the end. They only live 2-4 weeks.
Some fungi friends found at Bernheim Forest this past weekend (Louisville, KY). One is actually not a fungi species. Do you know which one?
From a hike on Sunday. Interesting plants and fungi at #BernheimForest just south of Louisville, KY. I met some new friends to show them a favorite trail.
I cannot tell you how often I have this come up! Totally a coincidence 🍄🟫🍄 #mycophile #funga
@ecien.bsky.social I have that t-shirt too and I am wearing it out! Need to see about a new one. (Almost all of us are here because of immigrants! ) 🌎
This is #louisville April 5, 2025 for the peaceful #handsoff rally that also turned into a march down Main St. and back. There were so many people! I think 1,000+. The rain and flooding didn’t seem to be a deterrent. #kentucky
