I remember seeing… maybe the first act of Arsenic and Old Lace in a drama junior high. Everything before it becomes a thriller in the middle. And it’s that part, where Carry Grant is missing, that drags a bit and brought my score down. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
No, you’ve spent the past half hour watching old cinematics and remembering old characters…
So, the thing about Punusher War Zone- - Naw, I’m just kidding. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is definitely the best of the Tom Holland series (so far), and for me I’d say it’s the best live action Spider-Man since probably the 2002 film. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
Just like the story we were watching, the lady seated next to me for Hadestown: The Musical almost made it all the way through without singing along. Almost. Is that Ironic? I’m not sure. I blame Alanis. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
Theme Week! The Odyssey is an amazing film. I’m only not giving it a full five because of creative decisions to play all monsters as monsters. So some scenes play out differently than expected. Points for a “past the point doing it right” joke though. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
One should celebrate the little wins. Plus I still have one in the freezer for the Big Day.
Some day, all the classic pulp heroes are going to enter public domain. And someone somewhere is going to try and do a shared universe film with them. I hope I’m around to see it and I hope it was worth sticking around to see. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
Mystery Men stylistically reminds me so much of the Joel Schumacher Batman films. But it works so much better here because it’s a comedy. Also, haven’t watched it in so long, was surprised how much Reubens’ Spleen sounds like Sid from the Ice Age franchise. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
I’m not one that focuses extensively on the editing when watching a film. But there were moments of Supergirl where the cutting of shots made me take notice and think someone reminded them to aim for PG-13 in the editing bay. Alcock, Momoa, needle drops all great. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
Yeah, I know the accent work is not great. But is anyone really watching Prince of Thieves for Costner at this point, or are they here for Freeman and Rickman amongst others? Hell, I personally love McShane as Tuck (mostly for defenestrating the corrupt priest). #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
Watched on Monday, and I’m still wondering if some of the casting in Repo! was deliberate. Like if certain characters were cast due to a lack of musical talent to show they’re both evil AND incompetent. The older cast do so much better. RIP Anthony Head 🕯️ #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
If you are going to The Furious, you’re not going for the plot. You’re going for the frenetic fight sequences of the type that make you wonder if the filmmakers and actors paused while shooting a fight WITH (not ON) bicycles to go “what the fuck are we doing?”. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
I was not expecting such a significant drop in quality between The Heroic Trio and Executioners. I also wasn’t expecting a shift from modern Fantasy to post apocalyptic, switching a good amount of martial arts to gun fights, and sidling your lead so long. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
Mando and Grogu is giving me some James Bond vibes. See them complete a mission in the opening sequence before heading back to M for their next mission that will have them location hop to complete the job. Just missing Q and a Bond Girl. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
I suppose I should have recognized that Top Gun Maverick wasn’t going to live up to the original for me by the number of times someone told the best of the best pilots from the dogfighting school that getting into a dogfight was going to get them killed. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
I am looking forward to DunesDay. But that is a long time from now. Today. Today is for… MUTTON KOMBAT!!!
For May the Fourth, I opted for The Hidden Fortress, as it is repeatedly noted as an influence on George Lucas’ creation of Star Wars. And that influence is mostly in characters: two argumentative laborers, a rebellious princess, and an honorable warrior in hiding. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
