Globe & Mail publishes a glowing piece on Taiwan's "civil defence" orgs. These groups, Kuma Academy funded by tech billionaire Robert Tsao, and Forward Alliance headed by a former Goldman Sachs executive from Chicago, are described as "a grassroots movement." www.theglobeandmail.com/world/articl...

Since 2020, civilian-led organizations such as Kuma Academy and Forward Alliance have sprung up to teach people first aid, disaster response and emergency communications. Together, they have trained 130,000 people across the island.

Though it is a grassroots movement, the government has co-operated with civil defence groups. In 2025, Taiwan's defence ministry published a special handbook, “In Case of Crisis,” outlining the training the groups have been providing.

Says a lot about the state of this country that those who engage in fraudulent activity feel emboldened enough to call the cops on journalists asking questions.

The Ottawa Citizen submitted a request for comment to Capt. Friedberg using his military and personal emails as well as through the Defence department’s media liaison office. Friedberg responded by filing a complaint with the South Simcoe Police Service. Police investigated and concluded the complaint against the Ottawa Citizen was unfounded and the newspaper’s request for comment was not a criminal act.

Asked whether he was concerned about developments in Egypt and Turkey, Netanyahu focused his answer on Erdogan, saying Turkey’s posture was partly a result of Iran’s weakening.

“The things Erdogan says about wanting to destroy Israel, to retake Jerusalem, I think he forgot that the rule of the Ottoman Empire ended,” Netanyahu said. “There is the State of Israel here, the Israel Defense Forces, and the people of Israel. We will not allow anyone to threaten us.”

Netanyahu also addressed the broader regional picture, saying Israel must remain strong in order to survive in the Middle East.

“The war will never end,” Netanyahu said. “You want to live in the Middle East? Be strong.”

In the most telling section, after lauding Trump for providing "an historic opportunity to prevent Iran from acquiring any nuclear weapon," the statement seems to link Iran, Lebanon and Gaza to the construction of new supply routes for the G7. No mention of Israel is made.

In Lebanon, we support, through an immediate robust ceasefire, the Lebanese leadership’s efforts to achieve the disarmament of Hezbollah and the monopoly of arms, and to protect Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty with the appropriate international security guarantees.

In Gaza, we will accelerate humanitarian and reconstruction efforts and the swift implementation of relevant political and security measures. We call for ending violence in the West Bank.

We commit to accelerate the diversification of energy supply routes in order to reduce global vulnerability to the Strait of Hormuz and to increase our energy stocks. We welcome the potential for Canada to deliver significant additional capacity to global markets in the coming years.

NAV Canada classifies all airspace up to 60,000 feet above Canadian territory as Class A, which requires an Air Traffic Controller to grant access to any and all aircraft entering it.

It costs around $30 million in AI hardware and $14 million per megawatt of data center capacity. Data centers appear to take anywhere from a year to three years depending on the size. Of the 114GW of data centers supposedly being built by the end of 2028, only 15.2GW is under construction in any way, shape, or form. As a result, every AI data center starts millions of dollars in the hole, and even with six-year-long depreciation schedules, takes years to pay off. Open AI reckons it will make $673 billion in revenue through the end of 2030, but it is burning $852 billion in cash raised from loans and contracts to get there. At the same time, competitor AI companies, mainly in China, are providing open source AI machines that dramatically undercut prices being charged by the American firms.

Carignan acknowledged the change and said it has meant the Canadian military has had to adjust its lesson plans.

“What we have done recently is focus our efforts toward training trainers,” Carignan said.
