April Numbers via ECCC Near/Above average for the first half of April - below average to finish = near average temps overall. Finally an above average precip month in NB and another near average for NW NS, where drought still lingers from 2025. AND this doesn't include latest Friday or Sunday rain.

Here's a look at snowpack and minimum temperatures this winter season at Halifax YHZ. While we had some cold snaps in December and the first half of January, our most sustained tick-killing temperatures arrived after there was already plenty of snow on the ground to protect them.

Bye Bye Snow... With a sustained warm up on the way, coupled with showers, drizzle and fog patches, models project our current 20 to 50 cm snowpack will be almost entirely wiped out by late next week for much of the Maritimes! Here is the ECWMF model for snow depth for today and a week from now.

What a view! Big blue skies allowed NASA's MODIS satellite to take an awesome shot of the Maritimes today. Lots of snow... and yes sea ice. Sea ice coverage in the Gulf of St. Lawrence is currently running around 20%. The 1990-2020 average is closer to 35-40% this time of year.
