Every time I call the Amsterdam municipality they have this insanely stupid robot that pretends to 'answer' the phone, and you are forced to talk to it via voice, so you have to say "Connect to a person" 3 times before it does anything useful.
I will be presenting at two sessions at SIGGRAPH next week! One roundtable about OpenUSD, and one BOF about Tool UX Design If you are also around at the conference, and want to discuss better workflows, let me know! I would love to meet up with folks, especially in VFX, who want better 3D workflows
I am giving a talk in the Funsmith Discord today at 10:00 PDT, 19:00 CEST, about tools and workflows. This one is aimed at empowering game designers. How do you give them good tools? How do they know what to ask for? How do you ask for tools in the best possible way? See you there!
A food truck covered in it. A great way to decide to never eat there
Congratulations to... Christmas Island, and... Australia?? For becoming US states
I am hosting two sessions at Gamescom Dev (@gamescomdev.bsky.social) this year! You can find me at: 1. The Tool UX Design Roundtable - From Tool Pain to Workflow Gain 2. A panel about Tool Design: Designing the Future Workflows of Game Development, together with a few other great Tool Designers!
There seems to be a new session type, 'Forum', which can be 60 minutes, 90 minutes, or even 2 hours. I cannot find any information on what that is supposed to be though.
If you ever get a chance to play the Hegemony boardgame, please give it a shot. It’s a brilliant way to illustrate modern politics. But also, budget in at least 8 hours, oof.
First time I have ever seen 'non-hallucinogenic tools' as a point of marketing, neat! It's on the JangaFX twitter bio (though sadly @jangafx.bsky.social is not active here on Bluesky)
Did you know Gamescom is actually 3 different events? Gamescom Dev is Monday and Tuesday (Or Sunday to Tuesday for VIPs), then there is Gamescom from Wednesday to Sunday (Or Wednesday and Friday for Business), and Gamescom Congress is on Thursday. Read my guide here: rystorm.com/blog/how-to-...
Right after the massive success of First Light too.... Such an amazing team, such amazing technology, and they still get pushed to the sidelines. I feel so bad for ioi, it's like they can never catch a damn break
In short: Player guidance should be a part of 'natural' gameplay and game design, without breaking immersion, and when it isn't, things like heavyhanded yellow paint are added which are usually last minute resorts resulting in worse user experiences overall for a wider audience.
Basel airport has one single runway, and yet one of the fanciest looking lounges I’ve ever been in
Again it is nearly midnight, and it’s so warm folks are lying down on the stones in front of the cathedral
When someone takes a good picture of you, you have to share it (by @thomasfrick.bsky.social)
I am in Strasbourg this weekend, and due to the insane heat it is still 31c near midnight. And because of that, every single ice cream store is still open, with huge lines in front of them
This vision statement makes sense, and I appreciate them mentioning Godot is for games of small to mid size teams. Thats a good blend of vague and specific to have. But… Seeing the words ‘sensible defaults’ makes my Tool Designer hairs stand on end. It’s best to avoid that: youtu.be/ALJ4sq9NZzY
