Scenes from the garden. We're under threat most every day now for enormous hail so I try to take pictures for remembrance and hope for the best #gardening 🌱

4 large rectangular grey corrugated metal raised beds in pairs of two with various plants in them. Some are mulched with straw. Between the beds are a young maple tree plus three large tan bag planters. One has thriving zucchini plants.

It's my birthday today. In my adult life since I learned my mom was killed when I was 2 months old, my birthday has always felt like a countdown to the worst loss. Before that, it was really confusing because my APs didn't know me then. As an aside, I sure was a brick headed baby 🥚

The woodsmoke issue has greatly improved, but about once a week so far someone burns something horrible and noxious and I found out it was coming in the dryer vent. So I did a thing. Proud of myself.

The side of my house with an older aluminum dryer vent on the concrete and tan stucco. A long and tangled bright green hose is on the ground along with the new packaged steel dryer vent cap and a yellow and black DeWalt bag with tools sticking out of it. The ground is mostly dry grass.

The old dryer vent cap has been taken off revealing rigid ducting with yellow expandable foam all around. My white toe in a sandal is visible in the foreground. The wall is part concrete and tan stucco above.

The back of the new white steel dryer vent cap is in place. The ducting is visible.

The new white steel dryer vent cap is installed. It is screwed in and caulked with clear caulking.

I painted some picture frames from black to orange. I really like how they turned out.

Sitting around in the backyard because the ducts were cleaned and sanitized and the smell is absolutely lethal. The air is super good outside finally and these guys are having a great time. Definitely feels today like all of the shit we went through during and after the love was worth it.

There's a metal recycling plant on fire an hour away and it's ruined our good air. Seriously, fuck how this world works. Including today, 2 more days in the hotel. Little man is doing pretty well, much better than I thought he would. Missing my kids like crazy, so done with this estrangement.

Medium sized alocasia in a red pot, potted in a mix of sphagum moss, bark and pumice. The leaves are light green with burgundy veins on the underside and there are two flowers. The pot sits on a lime green potting mat that has soil and dirty used plant pots on it.

A mix of plants sit on different surfaces. Two Phaleonopsis orchids in clear 7" orchid pots are under a white Ikea lamp with a grow light in it. They are both in bloom, the one in the front is purple and the one in the back has a spike with a cascade of white blooms. That one has bright green upright leaves and the other one has long dark green and burgundy leaves that point towards the floor. The one in the back has new potting media, a mix of wet sphagnum moss, bark and pumice. The one in the front has spent, old media, a mix of sphagnum, charcoal, bark and cork that is not very visible.

Started repotting orchids yesterday. Found out that two of the minis outgrew their pots, so made a dual diy solution. I like how it turned out. Mix is pumice, sphagnum and bark. Thinking of adding lava rock to the large ones. Trying to decide if I upsize the pot on the two largest ones. 🌱🌿 #dogs

Found some actual walkable nature around here (well a half hour away) and wow was it good for my mental health. There are trails close to this so I'm looking forward to returning in the future. Still miss home. #afternoonwalk

Today, I did a bunch of yard work (brought to you by prednisone) and Little Man (Morse) hung out for a bunch of it. He was happy when I got tired and came inside tho, his favorite thing is hanging out together on the bed. He's come so incredibly far in such a short time 💜
