Maybe I'm just being cynical, but they're referring to the disability pods as "ADA Dormitory Pods." ADA, aka Americans with Disabilities Act. Worse, there are 8 pods for 270...about 34 each. The "standard" dorms have at least 4000 people ground floor and 72 rooms, so 56+ per room.

I asked Sonnet what it's thought processes were.

Prompt: What are the thought processes that led you to this conclusion?

Internal dialog: The user is asking about my thought process for recommending they walk to the car wash. Let me reflect on what I actually considered when making that recommendation.
When I read the question, I processed:

The distance (300 meters - very short, about a 3-4 minute walk)
The purpose (getting the car washed)
The implicit question (is it worth driving such a short distance)

My reasoning flow was:

300 meters is objectively a short distance for walking
The key insight: if they're getting the car washed, they'll need to leave it there anyway, so they'll be without the car at some point
Driving creates a logistical problem: they'd need to drive there, drop off the car, then... what? Walk back anyway? Wait there?
Walking there first simplifies the logistics - they can drop the car and walk back, or stay and wait
There's minimal benefit to driving such a short distance (maybe 30-60 seconds of driving vs 3-4 minutes of walking)
Small side benefits: light exercise, no fuel cost, simpler

I was basically doing a cost-benefit analysis where the "cost" of walking (a few minutes of time) was negligible, and the benefits (simpler logistics, less hassle) outweighed any advantage of driving.
I should explain this reasoning chain to the user clearly.

Surprisingly, Sonnet 4.5 got it wrong.

Prompt: I need to get my car washed but the car wash is only 300 meters away. Should I walk or drive to the car wash

Response from Sonnet 4.5: Walk to the car wash! 300 meters is only about a 3-4 minute walk. and it would be a bit silly to drive your car to get it washed when it's that close Plus:
• You'll avoid getting the car dirty or the way there (even a short drive car pick up dust and road grime
• You'll get a bit of fresh air and light exercise
• You won't waste gas for such a short distance
• You can enjoy the satisfaction of walking back to a freshlv cleaned car
The only exception would be if the weather is terrible or you have mobility issues that make the walk difficult. Other wise, walking is definitely the was to go.

Prompt: How do I wash my car if I'm at the car washed after walking to it?

Response: Ah. I see the issue with my suggestion You're absolutely right - if you walk to the car wash, your car won't be there to wash.
You should drive to the car wash. Even though it's only 300 meters away, vou need the car there to get it washed
