things you can do when you're unemployed (and your kid's in daycare): see a three-hour movie with your wife at 10 on a weekday morning, in a (packed) proper giant-1.43:1-screen IMAX theater, sitting dead center of one of the optimal rows
(A) Cool. Coolcoolcool. (B) Seems like the "articles" on ISBNdb's site are themselves AI-generated? The byline is a "Val Giordano," who supposedly has "10+ years of experience" as a writer/editor, though a search turns up nothing but ISBNdb articles... and his avatar is a royalty-free stock photo.
impeccable timing @daveweigel.bsky.social @waitmanwbeorn.com @kevinmkruse.bsky.social
boy am I thrilled to learn from this thread that someone I respect as much as Chris Hayes is a fellow one of these guys there are dozens of us!!!
dear Shake Shack: please hire me to copy edit your push notifications, because this is embarrassing (btw, I did click it to check — this was not a pun about, like, a Mountain Dew-flavored shake)
how many times do you think I'll have to tell Google that I'm not interested in "AI-powered insights" about upcoming sporting events before it takes the hint
Microsoft's been doing a lot of stupid shit lately, but this might take the cake... Yes, that's right, it's Windows Spotlight notifying me of the definitely upcoming Game 7 of the 2026 NBA Finals
hello I left my house at 6:30 AM and by 8:30ish had made it to within one block of the Knicks parade route, which honestly is exactly the level of proximity I was expecting for that timing (circled in yellow is my view of Broadway)
Had the pleasure of copy editing Design Room's latest oral history, which is @jaymcastello.bsky.social's look at the making of Spore! It's a really well-put-together piece with some hilarious quotes:
There's a fever sweeping through our kid's daycare... KNICKS FEVER, BAY-BEE They sent a note to parents asking to dress the little ones in 🔵 and 🟠 yesterday, and then, when we dropped our kid off this morning, this was the scene in the entrance area: a handmade banner + Game 4 highlights on loop
the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is great and all, but there's a much lesser-known attraction just around the corner from it — Okochi Sanso, which was the villa of an early-20th-century actor cool to walk around a traditional Japanese estate, and there are amazing views of Kyoto to be had:
leaving the (theoretically sound) concept aside entirely, this is the first announcement from Mamdani that has made me (A) roll my eyes and (B) say "this ain't it, bro" they can't all be winners, but did nobody in the room push back on this silly name?
well, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to secure gainful employment in the field of journalism again, so I may have to get my fix another way... folks, I present to you the Michael Keaton Newspaper Editor Double Pack
I listened to this podcast yesterday — and my ears perked up at a surprise mention of Polygon! I transcribed the relevant bit, which starts at 11:26 or so:
I've actually owned Top Gun: Maverick on 4K Blu-ray for years, but I had held off on popping in the disc — partly because I held out hope that the movie would be re-released in IMAX at some point so that I could experience it as Tom Cruise/god intended. Worth the wait!!!
