A print by artist Bella Venable, etching in blue ink on a cotton and lace doily. The doily has a multi-layered fringe of white cotton and the print is in the middle, showing a bird-human like figure sitting down. It's one piece from a series called A Field of Beauty. "Using fabrics and printmaking methods, I create work based around art as a ritual for grief. Using surrealism and interactions between human and non-human, my work sits in a liminal space born from my loss. I believe that through talking about grief publicly, my work can create a safe space for those who also experience this. Growing up, my creativity was nurtured by my grandmother, Carolyn Kenny, but It wasn’t until her death years later that I learned that these childhood moments came from a deep knowledge of art and healing, gained from years of learning and practice. Drawing on her Indigenous heritage (Choctaw and Haida) and talents as a musician, she developed a
music therapy practice she called “The Field of Play”. Now, using my own artistic practice, I use the tools she created to help with my grief, finding a voice through art when words are not enough."

A bookwork by Aga Kubish called The Shelter. It unfolds in a concertina style, printed relief print black ink on white paper, it has a series of red threads sewn through it - as if they are showing you a path or suggesting a way to find shelter in the woodlands.

This is a small riso printed book, the cover is dark green and the text is interwoven in a pattern but it reads 'you are drowning in evil, there are angels everywhere', it is one of a series with this name by Sadie Pedersen Sharp who will be doing photocopier performances at the show.

A relief print (monotype) by Laetitia Lucht - the black ink is rolled onto a surface then the paper placed on it and drawn into gently to create the print. It also has fingerprints by the artist. The text reads 'would you still love me if I was me'.

This is a handmade book by Carolyn Trant of Parvenu Press, called Emblems for Enemies, it has linocut black images printed ove rpictures from newspapers of wars and disasters caused by humanity.

A handmade book by Larissa Cox called Cathedral, it is a tunnel book - which shows parts of a scene cut away over a stack of pages making a kind of tunnel, the cathedral is a forest of trees, nature's cathedral.

A handmade book by Philippa Wood & Tamar MacLellan, called step by step, it is made from old pattern cutting papers for dressmaking, each page is printed by one of the artists and then passed back to the other so it gradually gets made between them. Imagery is ornamental patterns in pale and dark blue, white, red.

A handmade book by Heather Prescott, called Cycling, it unfolds in the same way a concertina would, printed in green letterpress type the text reads: cycling is a process of emotional repair.

Artist's book: Looking at Prints by Richard Roberts (Roberts Print, 2020). It has a gold cover with black outlines of framed works of art. Inside, rather than showing the artworks themselves, it has pictures of people looking at printed artworks in exhibitions.

Artist's book: Exceptional Subjects, by Norman McBeath photographer and printmaker & Melissa McCarthy writer (Easel Press, 2024). A photographic study of items selected from a private collection built up over a number of years. While the objects are all connected to the process of looking - with many linked to the early stages of photography - they are no longer tied by their name or defined by context.

Artist's book: I know my ABC by Paul Cooke (Dubious Books, 2023). Hand drawn images in the style of a children's ABC book, this image is for the letter N, and shows a drawing of the singer Nick Cave (dressed in a pale blue suit) holding a newt that is sitting on a white napkin on his outstretched hands. It is a play on letters and also a tribute to singers and artists that the maker admires.

Kathleen Furey Mám Éan’ (the 'Pass of the Birds’). Tetra Pak print. In Tim Robinson’s book, Listening to the Wind, (which is the first volume in his Connemara Trilogy), the chapter Curse and Blessing talks about a day climbing to the sacred site of Mám Éan. Mám Éan, ‘the pass of the birds’ – is one of the two main passes through the Maumturk mountain range, the old boundary between Connemara proper and Joyce Country in County Galway. According to legend, St Patrick was travelling through the Maam Valley, on his return from Croagh Patrick in County Mayo, when he climbed up to the top of the pass, and blessed the land to the west – Connemara. That night, he slept in a little hole in the hillside known as Patrick’s Bed (Leaba Phádraic), but ventured no further into Connemara. In time, Maumean became an important place of pilgrimage where locals gathered for an annual ‘pattern’– a day when people prayed (and celebrated) at a holy site – in honour of St Patrick. The pilgrimage had almost died out by the mid 1900’s due to faction fighting but was revived in the 1980s.

Monoprint by Marian Kilpatrick. Dark black inks have been washed over a sand-coloured paper so it has a feel of water and air as well as the solidity of the rock. The piece was inspired by the book The Bone Cave: A Highland Journey Through Myth and Memory by Dougie Strang, Birlinn Press, 2023.

Handmade artist’s book by Eva Hejdstrom. It is a series of cutouts one behind the other so it creates a range of paper mountains in browns, greys and white. There is a road through the middle and a tiny figure with a rucksack standing on the last but one top. The text on the sky of the last page is a quote by Sylvia Plath from The Bell Jar: “I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery—air, mountains, trees, people. I thought, 'This is what it is to be happy'”.

An artist's book by Kate Bernstein for World Book Night - A hard cover book which has no spine, the printed paper inside is triangular and unfolds to make the shape of a mountain.

A piece for World Book Night by Ray Mackenzie: inspired by the original anonymous introduction to Select Views that later became the justly famous guide to the lakes by Wordsworth. Updated for the 21st century it has a drawing of a drone hovering over the lakes in the shape of a cloud.

An artist's book for World Book Night by Tom Sowden. The style of the book is that of the artist Ed Ruscha. It says thirtysix views of steeples. Loosely inspired by the book Seven Steeples by Sara Baume, which is based in Ireland.

Tom adapted a copy of his artist’s book Thirtysix Views of #MtFuji and replaced the images of Mount Fuji with pencil drawings of Ireland’s tallest mountain, Carrauntoohil. Another mountain he hasn’t climbed.
