CA's Central Coast is one long line of cabanas, coolers, and beach chairs this 4th of July; beach picnics are taken very seriously here. Folks are holding their breath that the fog clears before fireworks. 🎇 I found quiet stretch for my evening walk at Surfer's Point at Seaside Park in Ventura.

Here's an eagle from my visit to Sitka last year. Spotted from the bear sanctuary there. The eagles would swoop down and steal the salmon right from underneath the bears' noses.

Didn't like visiting Santa Maria for Elks Rodeo Parade despite usually enjoying my new role. Terrible was the large sanctioned MAGA presence. Worse was visiting the memorial for Lailani Díaz Vázquez, a baby killed by a car driver as her mom crossed the street at a marked intersection this March.

A roadside memorial for a child named Leilany Vasquez Diaz, set up next to a gray street pole and a blue utility box painted with cartoon bees.
