Nice to see a family of 3 Green Woodpecker (1 adult, 2 juvenile) nr Dobwalls today #UKBirding #cornwallbirding
Intrigued to find Blue-tailed and Azure Damselflies in dominance 4 weeks ago almost none evident Replaced by Small Red-eyed Damselfly and a minimum of 5 Willow Emerald Damselfly today (while grieving the complete absence of hirundines) @britishdragonflies.bsky.social East Yorkshire this morning
Well on with my #100plantsin2026 but struggling with this. On its own on a road verge, East Yorkshire. Anyone able to assist? @bsbibotany.bsky.social #PlantID I'd thought Large-flowered Evening Primrose (Oenothera erythrosepala) but lacks red sepals, c 90cm tall.
Moth-trap by-catch is often exciting. I get loads of Mystacides longicornis but this morning had a glossy M. azurea I believe which is one to add to my @panspecieslisting.bsky.social list. #TeamMoth VC61
Fleeting visit to North Cliffe Wood, Saturday. Cool & overcast, I bet it would be fantastic for inverts with a bit more time spent. Very pleased with stonking Kite-tailed Robberfly (Machimus atricapillus) & Tachina fera @yorkswildlife.bsky.social @ynuorg.bsky.social @panspecieslisting.bsky.social
Pretty woeful only picture I managed but great to see Purple Hairstreak back again Snuff Mill Lane, Cottingham @bcyorkshire.bsky.social @erichjames.bsky.social
An interesting trap last night, just the 20w Actinic but highlight the exquisite NFM Acleris literana VC61 #TeamMoth @gardenmothscheme.bsky.social
The tiniest Ragwort in my lawn and who finds it.... #TeamMoth @bcyorkshire.bsky.social
Spotted this weevil (probably foolishly) thought I'd have a go at ID'ing it. When I went to take a photo I noticed it was... well, sorry for anthropomorphasising but... tap dancing. Wow!! #inverts @panspecieslisting.bsky.social #gardenwildlife @yorkswildlife.bsky.social @ynuorg.bsky.social
Yes this is "volume 1" for sense, instead of my ramblings, intro from "volume 2"
Just sorting some records, as a non-botanist who is trying to up my game for the #100Plantsin2026 @bsbibotany.bsky.social challenge I am pleased to report this Common Mallow (Malva sylvestris) is my 100th plant for @panspecieslisting.bsky.social Still only on 73 for this year, but working on it...
A right rocking set from @superchunk.bsky.social courtesy of @nathbrudenell.bsky.social last night in #Leeds Still from a crap video. @brokenviolin83.bsky.social has some decent pics/footage 😃
For more than 9 days this Song Thrush has been belting out it's song at the foot of my garden, dawn, dusk and sometimes during the day. First time I actually thought to try and take a picture this morning. #UKBirding #YorkshireBirding @bto-gbw.bsky.social
I think I may have just found 5th record for VC61 of Metalampra italica 1st pic here #TeamMoth @doublekidney.bsky.social
Bit milder in Hull (23.1°C) I've gone with a tatty old T (Yes luckily working from home) #randomsharing
It's always a special moment to me when I actually see a Tawny Owl. Like this morning on my @webs-gsmp.bsky.social count. #YorkshireBirding #UKBirding
An interesting trap for @gardenmothscheme.bsky.social last night VC61 37 of 23 (a couple of prob Notocelia's to check) Most exciting of all though was a lifer in Small Mottled Willow. Specimen retained so hope to get a better picture. Hardly the Scarborough invasion of 2024 but chuffed. #TeamMoth
Attempted to video on my phone this tiny (circa 5mm) Arachnid eating a fly. Bit shaky and haven't tried to ID yet but cor. @panspecieslisting.bsky.social #invertebrates #wildlife East Yorkshire on Rose If anyone cares to throw an ID at me I'd be more than happy @britishspiders.bsky.social
My first trip to @rspb.bsky.social St Aidan's. I suspect strong winds had lots hunkering down. A great site I look forward to a return. My @birdtrack.bsky.social list: app.bto.org/birdtrack/pu... No BNG for me but pleased with this Cattle Egret living up to its name #UKBirding #YorkshireBirding
Wow. #Greatgigshitphotos Stonking sets from @sugarcopperblue.bsky.social and J Robbins in Leeds last night
Just realised that Bee Orchid (Ophrys apifera) was not only a lifer @northcavewet.bsky.social yesterday but also my 90th species for Vascular Plants on my @panspecieslisting.bsky.social list which feels perfect for a decidedly non-botanist trying to botanise. Reason enough to post pics again
Plus Odonata... A lifer in Red-veined Darter, thought I had a Lesser Emperor (but it wasn't to be .. thanks Richard for bringing me back to earth) "just" an Emperor, 4-Spotted Chasers @britishdragonflies.bsky.social 4/4
Some better pics... Reed Warbler, Great Crested Grebe, Green Woodpecker, Sedge Warbler #YorkshireBirding 2/4
