Official Bluesky account for Rep. Jan Schakowsky, Illinois 9th Congressional District Got my start as a consumer advocate. Dog mom to Ellie, my golden retriever!
What a lovely evening celebrating my friend Will and everyone who makes Will's Place in Skokie so special! Will's Place creates meaningful employment opportunities for adults with disabilities while serving up some delicious food. Thanks for making our community stronger and more inclusive.
Happy Birthday, @barackobama.bsky.social! 🎂 I've had the privilege of knowing you since the earliest days and am grateful for the friendship we've built along the way. Your leadership, compassion, and commitment to public service have left a lasting mark on our country and the world.
Under Chair Lina Khan, we worked hard to make “Made in America” a label consumers can trust. As companies use AI to hide where products come from and spread false claims, the FTC must do its job: protect consumers and honest American businesses.
Today marks 61 years since Medicare and Medicaid were signed into law. For more than six decades, these programs have provided lifesaving care and financial security to millions of Americans.
Happy National Intern Day! Ashley and Jordon have gone above and beyond for the people of Illinois' 9th District. Thank you both for your hard work, your fresh ideas, and your dedication. You'll always be part of Team Schakowsky!
If you're scammed out of your money, you deserve to get it back. Period. The Consumer Protection and Recovery Act previously passed the House with bipartisan support because protecting consumers shouldn't be a partisan issue. Consumers can't wait. The House must pass it again.
Congratulations to Lilia from Evanston Township High School, the winner of my 2026 Congressional Art Competition! Her stunning piece, "Gatsby's American Dream," is a powerful reflection on the inequities that continue to stand in the way of equal opportunity.
Happy Equality Day! Eleven years ago, love won. The Supreme Court affirmed what so many of us had fought for over decades: that every couple, no matter who they love, deserves the freedom to marry. I won't stop fighting until every person can live openly, safely, and with dignity.
Four years ago today, the rogue Supreme Court stripped millions of Americans of their reproductive freedom. I have always trusted women to make their own health care decisions. Those choices belong to patients and their families, not politicians or judges.
Ten years ago, Democrats held a sit-in on the House floor for nearly 26 hours, demanding action on gun violence. A decade later, too many lives have been lost while Republicans continue to block commonsense reforms. We didn't stop fighting then, and we won't stop now. #GoodTrouble
The world has lost a remarkable champion for justice, and I have lost my shero, my role model, and my dear friend, Bea Lumpkin.
Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children in America. That's not inevitable. It's a choice. We don’t have to accept this as normal. We know commonsense gun safety laws save lives. Our kids deserve more than moments of silence. We need action NOW. #WearOrange
The Republican-led House Education Committee holding a partisan hearing on Chicago Public Schools is laughable. At this very moment, Republicans are attempting to slash millions of dollars in funds for Head Start and K–12 education programs while simultaneously gutting the Department of Education.
I was honored to be recognized by Rotary with a Lifetime Service Award for my support of polio eradication efforts. Ending polio is within reach, but only if we continue investing in global health. Thanks to the advocates who continue to keep this critical mission moving forward. #EndPolio
Happy Pride Month! This month is a celebration of the resilience, strength, and joy of the LGBTQI+ community. 🌈🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Today, on Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. I’m grateful for their courage, and I’m holding their loved ones close in my thoughts today.
I was a Head Start teacher, and I saw firsthand the joy, confidence, and opportunities this program gave so many children and families. On its anniversary, we celebrate Head Start and stand against attacks that threaten access to early childhood education for millions of kids.
Trump promised lower prices. Instead, his reckless and illegal war in Iran is making life more expensive for everyone else. Gas prices up. Grocery prices up. Families stretched even thinner. Working people are once again paying for Donald Trump’s chaos.
This May Day, I stand with workers building a more just economy where everyone has a voice. As a dues-paying union member, I know firsthand the power of collective action. We must strengthen the right to organize and bargain so all can thrive. Workers deserve nothing less.
The future is green, and we are not backing down. This Earth Day, we are pushing for real climate action, not empty promises. The science is clear. The urgency is real. Time to act.
Every year, thousands of people in the U.S. are newly diagnosed with ALS. Thanks to my friends, Brian and Sandra, for speaking about the importance of reauthorizing the ACT for ALS bill! This legislation will fund ALS research so people can access life-saving treatments. Let's get it done!
Constituents are calling my office in tears. They are scared. This is what dangerous rhetoric does. It spreads fear and uncertainty. Republicans must stand with Democrats and speak out against this unhinged madness. Silence is cowardice.
Medicaid is a lifesaver! Seniors, kids, pregnant people, and those with disabilities depend on it. Republican cuts have forced millions off care. This #MedicaidAwarenessMonth we will defend Medicaid and fight to protect health care for all.
Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating across the 9th District. Wishing you peace, joy, and time with loved ones!
Community Project Funding applications are now open! If you're a local government or eligible non-profit in IL-9, submit your proposal by March 8th at 11:59 PM (CT). Let’s invest in projects that strengthen our communities.
Communities across the country are dealing with floods, fires, and other extreme weather events. Climate change is real. We need bold action to create clean energy jobs and protect our planet. I’ll always defend the environment and was proud to earn a 100% rating from @lcv.org.
I was honored to join the Chinese Mutual Aid Association and @durbin.senate.gov to celebrate Lunar New Year! These are tough times, but our communities continue to show incredible strength and resilience. I'm grateful for our continued partnership and work to uplift immigrant and refugee families.
Wishing a joyful and prosperous Lunar New Year to all who celebrate! May the Year of the Horse bring renewed energy, opportunity, and hope. Here’s to a new year filled with good health, happiness, and continued progress toward a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
My dear friend Rev. Jesse Jackson devoted his life to fighting for dignity, equality, and opportunity for all. From his transformative organizing and advocacy in Chicago to his leadership on the national stage, his courage and conviction inspired millions and strengthened the civil rights movement.
This week I greeted the 19 monks who walked over 100 days and 2,300 miles to bring a message of peace to the Capitol. Their journey is a powerful reminder that in tough times we all must do everything we can to lead with compassion, stand up for justice, and never stay silent in the face of wrong.
