Happy #WorldPhotographyDay! Here are two of my favorite photos I took while in the #Midwest. A small lake with a deer drinking from it called Midge Lake in #Minnesota and Root Beer Falls in #Michigan More of my photography at ScottWGonzalez.com

A small lake in the woods seen from an opening in the thin trees in the foreground. The foreground is a grassy area with white flowers, dappled sunlight, and a few trees. The midground is the lake that is reflecting the blue sky with white clouds and the dense woods on the other side of the lake. The sky above is blue with white clouds.

A waterfall scene. The exposure is long so the waterfall and the bubbles from it are milky white blurs. The water in the river that fills the lower part of the frame is a root beer color. There are multiple gray rocks in the river. Where the waterfall is falling the rocks are wet and have various spots of green moss on them. Above and beyond the waterfall a forest of green trees can be seen.

A forest scene with a waterfall that is composed of many thin streams of water falling over a ledge. Where the water hits the rock below the area of wear is obvious because of the color difference in the stone and the lack of vegetation. Where the water is not running there is an abundance of greenery including trees above the waterfall. A wooden bridge is above the stream that leads to the waterfall. .

A cascade waterfall seen head on from the stream that it leads to. There are fallen logs that are in the stream which might have contributed to the levels of the cascade. The canyon walls on the left and right are covered with green vegetation and trees. The water that is moving is a cottony white because of the longer exposure.

Having a bad time with #photography. I have entered my work into a 100ish contests, and the closest I got to winning was being a semi finalists. It really feels bad when one of the winning ones is a bland pic. Maybe I take meh pictures, or maybe I just don't hit on what judges like. #EastCoastKin

A natural pool between red sandstone outcroppings. The water is still and reflects the cliffs and rocks very well. There is some floating debris in the water. The top quarter of the frame forms a rough bowl shape of sky that is a pale bright blue with brilliant white clouds, a darker mirror image in reflected in the pool on the bottom quarter of the frame. The red sandstone has layers of depth, on sandstone on the right is a black patch and above it about mid distance in the frame is a patch of dormant vegetation.

The white light that emits a beam into the sky takes up the top of the pyramid. The light is roughly the width of the full Moon which is directly in the path of the beam. The full Moon has a circular glow around it.

A mountain below a partially cloudy sky, it is at sunset so some of the clouds are pinks and reds while others are gray and white. The exposure is long enough to make the clouds into a slight blur of motion. The sky is white in the middle right of the frame and graduates to a deep blue on the top left, a few stars can been seen on the left of the frame above the mountain. The mountain is a chestnut color with snow in the valleys and crevices including a glacier in the largest valley on the right. The foreground is trees and bushes that are nearly in silhouette that frame the bottom and the sides about halfway up the frame.

A male Ruddy Duck in breeding plumage. Its bill is baby blue leading to a half oval of white on its head, the rest of the head is black. The body is a chestnut color and the upright tail is black. It is swimming in smooth water that is a blue gray color and is reflected quite clearly.

#BirdOfTheDay theme #PassportPhoto. Here are two. First is one of my favorite desert birds the Phainopepla, if you see desert mistletoe it was probably from a Phainopepla. The other is a Burrowing Owl, a small owl (less than a foot tall) that is often up during the day. #EastCoastKin #Photography

The bird is sunlit from the left side of the frame leaving the half of the bird lit and half in shadow. There are several branches that are blurry and in the foreground, in the background there are a couple of larger branches going from the right of the frame to the left in an upward angle.

A Burrowing Owl looking straight at the camera. It is behind a log and is looking over it. The owl has large yellow eyes with medium sized round pupils that are black. Its feathers are a sandy tan and white.

If not for #PeterDinklage in Toxic Avenger I would not know to put shredded cheese on the outside of my grilled cheese sandwiches.

A grilled pepperoni and cheese sandwich with melted shredded cheese on the outside on a small purple plate. The sandwich is cut in half from corner to corner and slightly pulled apart. The orientation of the sandwich makes it diamond shaped.

Snoqualamie Falls seen from a distance and slightly above. The sky above the scene is slightly warm white clouds. There is a cliff where the water is falling from a river. The waterfall is broken in two at the top and join towards the middle of the descent. The exposure is long so the falling and moving water are a feathery white from blur. The water is falling from such a height that there is mist to the right and at the bottom of the fall. There is a lodge on the left side of the frame and waterfall that is brown and white. On the right side of the river and waterfall is a small forest of pine or fir trees, there are a couple of building that can be seen between the trees. Below the trees is a grey and brown cliff face leading to the water below. The water is a dark green and leads out of the frame on the bottom right. In the foreground on the bottom left is an outcropping of land that has green vegetation on it.

Happy #EarthDay! We need to do what we can to make it so the #Earth stays livable for us. The Earth will still be here after we destroy ourselves through greed, idiocy, convenience, and hate. We as a species should be able to do better. Here was a moment of peace I share with you on this Earth Day.

The waterfall is mostly on the left third of the frame and falls through multiple sections, due to the long exposure the water is a feathery white blur. It is surrounded by a rock cliff on both sides the ones near to the water are wet and darker that the ones farther away. Throughout the cliff face are spots of moss and dark green vegetation. The top of the cliff is about a third of the frame from the top and there are trees and vegetation going across the top of it. On the right of the frame is a large tree that looks as tall as the cliff due to its closeness to the camera.

Just passed the TSA checkpoint in Seattle and saw this on one of the empty desks. I learned this backwards and forwards in less than 8 weeks of basic training. Did they get less training than the Basic Training for soldiers? The grunts even knew this.

Happy #StunDay everyone. I am currently in #Seattle with a camera and no computer, so no editing raw files. Here is a Red Winged Blackbird. Jeez I have never seen one in all its glory. I thought is was a different #bird. They are common at times in Vegas just not as well ornamented. #EastCoastKin

A Red Winged Blackbird perched in a bare three between where three branches junction at a lower branch. The bird is looking to the left of the frame. Except for its shoulders it is all black, the shoulders are a vibrant red orange that looks like it could be fire but inverted.
The background is a gray bland sky of clouds.

Here is the family of four that I could take pictures of. They were high up and would space out from each other so high zoom was pointless.

The water in Badwater Basin is really salty. I have never had this many salt crystals form on my tripod before. This was from the recent trip to see the wildflowers (current pfp) and Lake Manly during the day. bsky.app/profile/scot...

Two views of Bad Water Basin in Death Valley, lines up at the mountain bases from the left to right of the frame.
On the left is the basin with water in it at dusk. There are wispy grey clouds in the sky, which is graduated from a light blue to a pinkish grey at the horizon. There are mountains in shadow coming from the left of the frame to the center of the frame where they have diminished in height and are nearly flat there. The frame is broken at roughly a third from the top be the lake leading to a reflected image of the described scene. The lake is about two thirds of the frame and has more reflected clouds that are white and sky that is blue.
On the right half of the frame is a dry version of the scene taken a couple hours after sunrise. The mountains go from a low to higher tops to the right edge of the frame. They are sunlit and a sandy golden color. The sky above is blue towards the top of the frame which graduates to a pale yellow and white at the mountains. The lower two thirds of the frame is a salt flat that is the more common condition of Badwater Basin. It is in shadow and looks like grey sand with raised ridges that make irregular shapes in the salt flat.
The middle of the image is a wavy irregular line, the clouds in the reflected surface of the water look like they blend with the ridges of the salt flat and the colors in the sky look opposite between the two sides.

The sunsetting behind a mountain range in the distance. The sky has streaky clouds that are orange near the mountains and more white towards the top of the frame. The sun is at the left top thirds of the frame and the mountain tops break roughly follow the top third across the frame. Below the mountains at about middle of the frame is the lake surface in shadow, dozens of people are walking towards the lake or at its edge. There is a wide trail leading from the lake towards the left lower corner which people are walking on. To the right of the trail is a pond of dispersed water that is reflecting the light from the sunset so it has a golden yellow hue. In the foreground on the left bottom corner is a viewing platform that is the walkway down to the trail. The curved to the left banister is made of cylindrical metal tubes and it dark colored and the top curve is reflecting the sunlight and looks bronze.

A photo of the Panamint Range at sunset. The mountains are mostly just a silhouette; some snow can be made out on some of the tops. There are clouds that are being lit by the sunset that vary in color from fiery orange near in spots near the top of the mountains to a cotton candy pink toward the top edge of the frame. The sky behind and between the clouds is a blue purple near the top of the frame and it lightens to a light cyan near the center of the mountain range. Lake Manly splits the frame in half and has a reflection of the top half of the frame that was just described, albeit it is darker. Several people can be seen walking in the shallow lake forming ripples in the water and in their reflections, several people are also standing in the lake.

Happy Pi day! I was a little overzealous when I went to Macgyver a pie. I had extra Boston cream from a previous pie so I was like graham cracker crust with Boston cream and blueberries would be perfect. I added apples bc it looked pathetic and it still does. #pi #pie #sad

A fruit pie made with a graham cracker crust in a clear glass pie plate. Inside of the crust is a filling with cream on the bottom with cooked blueberries on top of that then cooked cinnamon apples ontop of that. The filling only fills the pie about half way so it looks pathetic.

If you have the means and clear skies go check out the Moon and/or the #Lunar #Eclipse tomorrow morning. I will miss it as the photo shows I am in Disneyland and will be expected to be highly functional tomorrow. I only had a 28-60mm lens with me so no close up #Moon.

The castle between Disneyland and California Adventure parks. It is a skeletal recreation of the main castle in Disneyland. The bottom resembles stained glass in arches then it goes up to a blue slanted roof with a flat top and spires on it. On the right are two towers that are on metal poles. The towers make conical points on the tops and have spires going up from them. It is pictured at night so the sky is black and the castle is lit by artificial lights. To the left and a little above the middle tower is the full Moon brightly lit so no detail can be seen.
