Seriously, can beer be far behind? I think I might get hooked on fermentation. (My first batch of kombucha, 2nd fermentation for bubbles & flavor.)

5 glass beer-style, long-neck bottles with air-tight stoppers filled to the top with amber liquid. There are bits of apple present at the top of each bottle.

I knit in good times and bad - we lost our doggo a couple of weeks ago so I really doubled down on my knitting. It's a good distraction. Halloween/Samhain is my favorite time of year and I'll be wearing this a LOT. Great pattern by Joan Rowe. #knitsky #knitting

I did a thing while in ABQ. Ravens figure prominently in both the Native culture of the desert SW and the rain forest of Sitka. My ancestry is Celtic, hence the woven moon. I have a large tribal phoenix on my left arm with a sun in purple and turquoise. They balance each other nicely.

Blast from the past. Mt. Drum in the distance.

An empty road, disappearing into the distance with a mountain directly in the middle of the pic. The road leads up to it. Snow is piled sharply on each side of the highway, the road itself is clear. There are stunted trees on either side. The sky is pale blue with a few strands of clouds low to the mountains.

Morning has broken y'all.

Sunrise on the ocean, looking toward the mountains around Sitka. The ocean is glowing a pale gold while the yellow/orange round sun is just coming over a jagged peak. The sky is brass with long, wispy clouds. There is a small island in silhouette in the foreground. The far mountains are misty and brassy gray with patchy snow down their sides.

Never underestimate people pissed off over snow. Cabin fever at its finest. This case has been referred to the DA. #Sitka #Alaska

At 12:23 a.m. a caller reported getting into an argument with a neighbor. He said the neighbor had moved snow from his own yard into the caller's yard, the caller put it back in the neighbor's yard, and the situation escalated, the caller said, until the neighbor threw a couple of punches at the caller. Police opened a case and are investigating.

The top of Arrowhead Mtn. which does, indeed, look like the top of an arrow. Very point! The sky is SO clear and blue, while the shadows that come down the snow-covered peak are as blue as the sky. There are snow covered spruce at the lower elevation.

The only way for me to stay sane is to get out in nature. Sitka Sound as seen from Totem Park.

The first sunny day in weeks, the ice is gone, so EVERYONE was in Totem Park today. Lots of groups of folks visiting, everyone smiling in the sun, lots of "Happy New Years!" exchanged. Once again, Sitka's charmed bubble holds and we didn't have the snow that dumped everywhere else in the SE!

The sun low in the sky, slanting through a forest of spruce trees, the sun's rays catching the slight mist in the air to create shafts of sunlight dancing though the trees.

A blessed Yule to all who celebrate.

A small log on a table top, about 18" long and 6" in diameter. There are three lit white tapers standing on top (but in holes drilled in the log) and there are natural spruce boughs woven among the candles. A fake bird is sitting on the right on greenery. Behind is a table with many decorations - An old time St. Nick, stars, gnomes, etc.

This pic of Tok about 9/10 years ago fits the Solstice weekend perfectly. That glow, tho. I miss the Interior in winter. (Not in summer - too many mosquitoes! lol)

We have swans that come back to winter every year. This year there are 20+, a real bonanza for us. Usually there are around a dozen. Lots of juveniles, which is great to see. Got a walk in before what is threatening to be a significant winter storm. #Sitka #Alaska

2 swans canoodling (as I choose to see it) on a river in winter. Snow lines the shores and the swans are seen through a few branches at the shoreline.

We've had lots & lots & lots of rain lately. (I love rain, but still..) I'm reminding myself how gorgeous Sitka is in the sun.

Eastern channel at low tide, pools of water reflect the snow-capped mountains in the distance, between gravel beds. Small, tree-covered islands are in the mid-distance. The sky is clear and light blue.

Of course mermaids are real. You can even see them in the clouds. (1st is my unaltered pic, the 2nd is darkened to show her more clearly.) Sitka is a magical place.

pic overlooking the channel, waves lapping at the shore and the gray clouds in the distance are in the distinct shape of a mermaid. Her hair is blowing to the right, her back is slightly turned toward us with an arm coyly over her chest. Her tail is bent back - she appears to be sitting on it.

Same description as the 1st pic, this one has been darkened so the mermaid can be more easily seen.

The light was lovely in Totem Park earlier. We managed a walk during a sucker hole. #Sitka

Batten down the hatches SE Alaska. We're in for it. Sitka may or may not escape the brunt of it. I've tied the grill to the deck and put deck chairs, loose pots, etc. in the shed. I still think I'll come home to chaos.
