alright, an okayish result (my unplayeds are making me want to get back to the backlog though) giantbomb.com/ogu
started The Mermaid Mask last night and it is *wonderfully* charming. loving this already.
it's Final Fantasy X's 25th, so yeah, this game was basically my first RPG plunge - i pored over magazines for it, feverishly read GameFAQs boards, slammed my head against the Mt. Gagazet fight. still holds a special place in my heart.
new cover is out, and I've got one of the big features in this issue! it's all about Ace Combat 8, and how the series is using the surprising tailwind of 7's success to its advantage. check it out, in digital, in your mailbox, or at your local bookstore!
it boots up windowed. you are told you will be engaging in combat with a pencil and eraser. a golden head emerges from the void to inform you of the adventure you're about to undertake. this is a game you found in a garage sale bin that's about to become your whole personality. it's *excellent*.
early Next Fest standout is Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle. absolutely gorgeous RPG in a "Virtual Tabletop System" akin to solo roleplaying novels from a former Vanillaware dev. adored every moment of this demo, instantly one of my most anticipated surprises of the year.
thinkin about how Joey Wheeler got put in the hospital by card games and still kept that duel disk on
okay look just saying if offered the opportunity i would take a bite out of the cube
forget new hardware it's time to embrace the old (please ignore the scuffs)
also! i have a few written pieces in this one, including an interview with Paranormasight's Takanari Ishiyama! all about the series' creation, where adventure games are going, and even some cool concept art and scouting photos from Mermaid's Curse! plus *spoiler talk* on the online version!
rolled credits on Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. great game! comfort RPG in all the best ways. really liked all the dense optional lore and writing. ready for 2nd Chapter!
this was fun! i tried to make a real mixtape i would've made for my car when i was doing that Back Then, and it will not surprise you
