There’s a level of narrative brilliance making the idealized version of who Ralsei (a character visually based on Asirel) wants to be a completely inverted stand-in of the version of Asriel he absolutely DETESTED being in the previous game.

I won’t defend her specific conduct at the end of Chapter 4, but I think with the revelations in Chapter 5 about WHY the divorce happened, it’s worth revisiting how harsh on Toriel people were last year. Her husband shut her out emotionally, leaving her to raise Kris and Azzy essentially solo.
