Hi #PortfolioDay! I'm a Canadian illustrator/educator who works in both digital and traditional media. A lot of my work is for interpretive signage that I create for a wide variety of clients. I also teach online drawing courses in both graphite and coloured pencils.

I came across this handsome white-tailed buck the other day. His antlers are growing in quickly. 🌿 #mammals

I don't see Canada jays in the summer all that often, but I found this one in Prince Albert National Park back in June foraging among the lichen, which was a nice treat. #birds

An interesting find on the shore the other day. I'm pretty sure it's either a common or red-breasted merganser. #birds 🌿

Found some Dead Man's Fingers while out on my walk this morning. They're such a creepy-cool little fungus.

Cupcakes made out of my grandma‘s spice cake recipe with salted caramel buttercream. Very sweet, but quite yummy.

Luna has been having fun at 'summer camp'. She goes home this weekend and it'll be weird not having a dog around the house. It's been a lot of fun despite the truly insane amount of mosquitos we've walked through. (before you suggest I get one, I travel 8-10 times a year and can't take one on).

They're not super colourful, but I'm a big fan of gadwalls. I think they're rather dapper looking ducks and catching this one on the wing was a lot of fun. I'll likely end up using these as reference images the next time I teach a course on drawing birds in flight. #birds 🌿

It’s rhubarb season, so I made strawberry rhubarb slice and some rhubarb soda. Both turned out quite well, I must say.

A raven 'teenager' following its parents around. At this age, they're capable of feeding themselves, but still scream for food as they fly around as a family learning how to be ravens. I admire their parents' patience. #birds

My companion for the next week or so. I’m dog sitting for my friends. Definitely not used to having a large furball around the house, but we’re figuring it out. I just wish the bugs weren’t so bad. It would make walks a lot easier.

One of my favourite early summer flowers - white water lilies. They don't grow on Lake Winnipeg, so I always make a point to look for them when I'm traveling in the Canadian Shield to the east.

Antler tissue is the fastest-growing animal tissue. It can grow at a rate up to 2 cm/day in some species. Despite this very high cell division rate, there are remarkably cancer-free, a paradox that biologists continue to study. Elk can grow a whole 40 lb (18 kg) set in less than 6 months. #mammals

Black and white warblers are a favourite of mine. They're like if nuthatches were warblers. They fill a similar niche and are often seen upside-down. #birds 🌿

Found a friend while folding up a tarp. Quite a hefty wood frog. He/she wiggled back under under the kayak for safety. 🐸🌿

This basking turkey vulture was almost a comical sight sitting atop an old machine shed on a brilliant sunny morning. #Birds

While meeting a wolf is always very exciting, this meeting was difficult. I met her (I could see teats) along a road and she was very used to humans and being fed. I learned later that she's been around a couple of years and seems to fake a limp to get people to feed her. Not a great situation. 🦊🌿

A gorgeous morning to complete my second of two breeding bird surveys. Decided to treat myself with breakfast before going home for a nap. I’ve been up since 4 AM.

I found wild lupines for the first time today. They were so pretty, definitely worth a stop along the highway for a closer look. 🌿
