Uhhhhhhhh maybe check tornado history before assigning flights to the tornado gate…

Some angles just really drive home how Mammoth is a volcano.

In the upper part of the frame, above the valley, a gray wedge-shaped mountain sticks up well above the treeline. Its slopes are steep and smooth; its most recent coating of ash erupted out 700ish years ago. If you want to ski on a volcano, this is your spot.

Askja is a skilled research assistant.

Katla and Askja update:

I realize that I only posted pictures of the sweaters I made for my cats, and not the one I made for myself!

A hand-knitted Icelandic-style sweater. The main body is a heathered black, with a pattern of green and blue zig zags around the hem and sleeve cuffs. The pattern around the yoke has several concentric arcs made up mostly of triangles, making a gradient between stony blue, mossy green, warm gold, and rust red.

This picture really demonstrates the extent of Katla’s belly fluff.

Got some real San Andreas Fault glamour shots today.

A landscape from the Cholame Valley, California. The top of the frame is blue sky and the bottom is pale green grass. In the middle, white mist curls around soft green hills. The mist highlights how there is a linear step down between the base of the hills and the field below - this is the San Andreas Fault.

Sunset over Carrizo Plain National Monument, California. The sky fades from soft yellow to deep orange, above a couple of rows of blue mountains. In front of the mountains is the bright white stripe of Soda Lake. In the blue-shadowed brown of the foreground is a streambed that cuts across higher ground, then turns sharply to the right as it cuts around the front of the high ground. The San Andreas Fault is here, too.
