I observed a pretty interesting survival tactic while I was preparing their new home. For the 20 minutes I was busy, they lay motionless on a ceramic plate in a defensive state known as thanatosis, aka playing dead. As soon as they sensed the soil, they were gone. Update in about 4 weeks I guess..
After some research the circumstantial evidence seems strong. Found in potted plants next to a coconut palm I'm growing here in Vietnam and the grub size fits. I hypothesise they're Oryctes rhinoceros, aka the coconut palm beetle - but with 39 species of Oryctes, there's only one way to find out.
They're obviously some kind of scarab beetle larvae and by the looks and size of them, they're probably at stage three of their life cycle, ready to turn into a pupa. Now to give them a new home and wait for 3-4 weeks to find out which type..
OK so I was repotting some plants and look what I found.. So I know what my wife wants me to do with them but I know what I'm going to do with them.. All I see here is a great opportunity for science class ;)

Can't wait the see the high-res shots of the ecplipse, the commentary from the crew has been amazing throughout, totally worth staying all night for - even impressive from the solar arrays outside the Orion Capsule knowing its live ..
The crew (Wiseman, Glover, Koch, and Hansen) are also undergoing continual biometric testing. The ARCHeR study uses specialized wearables to monitor sleep and circadian rhythms in deep space. This research is vital for protecting astronaut health on long-duration missions. 🛰️⌚
