Another Jungian nugget in Star Wars: Legacy! One of the sacred Jedi texts is titled Aionomicum, volume two. In Carl Jung’s Collected Works, Volume 9, Part 2, is his book Aion. It is a study on what he called the Self, the archetype of archetypes, so to speak.

Not a spoiler: Star Wars: Legacy begins on the planet Pacara -- a play on the word picara, a term for a female adventurer. The picaresque is a form of novel made up of episodic adventures, the famous example being Don Quixote. Rey is absolutely a picara, so it fits to catch up with her on Pacara.

He might be best known for teaching the first college course in the world on Elvis Presley's works. And yet, his favorite song was "Yeh, Yeh" by Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames. He'd be tickled if you gave that one a spin. 🕯️❤️🎶

He helped so many of us. And no one else had his perspective. He was a fantastic professor—and writer—and family man—and friend—and trickster. An author, playwright, literary critic, D. H. Lawrence expert, Joseph Conrad expert, postcolonial theorist, champion of world literature...

He so improved the course of my life. Under his guidance I became a literary scholar. I would not be what I am without him. There's far more to say than I can say here right now. But I know he taught thousands of people over his career, so I hope this posting finds some of you.

We have lost a luminary. Peter Nazareth, Professor Emeritus at the University of Iowa, passed away the first hour of Friday morning. Dear Peter turned 86 last month. His loving family, including siblings and extended family and friends abroad, will coordinate a time and place to celebrate his life.

Book Five of Robert Sheckley's short fiction, here we go! Haven't had this much fun reading in over a decade.

Really good chance that Gene Wolfe got the idea for the Torturer's Guild in The Book of the New Sun from Robert Sheckley's 1959 sci-fi fable "Triplication," first published in Playboy, which talks about a torturer's guild on the planet Deegra IV.
