Sharks are hunted for more than their fins. Their liver oil, meat, cartilage, and skin turn up in everyday products, often with no label to warn you. That face cream or supplement? It may contain squalene, an oil from shark livers. Even pet food and garden fertiliser can carry shark.

Humpback whale migration is underway along WA coast. Humpback whales have considerable ecological overlap with seabirds in Antarctic waters foraging on same prey species and following same migratory routes. They are one of the key marine mammal species at risk from the H5N1 virus.
Australia's new independent National Environment Protection Agency comes online today - 1st July. The agency will have new powers to oversee Australia's nature protections and hand down tougher penalties for those who break the law.
Some species, like nurse sharks, lemon sharks and white-tip reef sharks, to name a few can rest on the seafloor and actively pump water over their gills while breathing.
Sharks travel vast distances removing some of them from one stretch of coastline simply creates a vacancy that other sharks will rapidly fill. Methods to cull sharks involve chum and baiting. Nets and drumlines entangle struggling wildlife. These things attract and excite sharks.
