At the Scottish Drugs Forum’s annual conference - day 1 concluding with a political panel. Great to see most represented, but very disappointing to see no Scottish Conservative representation, and Thomas Kerr from Reform as a no show.

I’ve started volunteering at the workshop, and in exchange I get some personal workshop time. Been working on this copper foil celestial piece (pattern from Etsy, not drawn by me!) - it’s almost finished, just needs a lead came border. Made a wee copper foil butterfly & cut glass for an order :)

A star, moon, clouds. The sky is very dark blue. The moon is yellow. The clouds look grey, but it’s actually a grey-lilac opaque glass.

A Mackintosh rose design - rose is opaque pink, green stems coming off, blues for the border, and a pale apricot colour for the background square.

Really behind on the glass updates 👀 Ended up doing three cullet squares - smaller versions of the rainbow one I did at the start of the year. First and last one are copper foiled, middle one was leaded. Did another scrap glass piece - abstract swirls! Went autumnal for this one…

Quiet month on the glass front - work and other commitments have meant I’ve not been along. 🪽 was asked to do some Scraffito wings for a mini exhibition 🐰 Easter fusing class 🏡 finished the bothy piece I’ve had in my tray since Jan - disliked the end product but it did sell 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🌺 finished fused bowl

Finished this piece a fortnight ago. A copperfoil piece using all clear glass. Looking forward to putting it in the kitchen window. The final pic shows the iridescent glass under water when I was washing the flux off 🌊✨

Finished this one yesterday. The iridescent glass makes it look a bit different on each side (think I prefer the yellow > blue). The leading was awful and my soldering needs more work. But first piece of 2026!

The Scraffito thistle in a leaded piece (24) and a copper foil bauble I made for a Secret Santa gift 🤭 (25). I’m now at the point I can help out with other things going on - this piece inspired by the Templeton carpet factory was left unfinished by someone (26), so I cleaned & finished it off (27)

I then learned how to do Scraffito - painting on glass, which is then fired in the kiln and can be incorporated in pieces. I did some thistles (20, see next post) and lots of baubles for markets (21-23)…

The brill thing about the workshop I go to is the opportunity to keep learning new skills… so I branched into copperfoiling and fusing. 16. My first copper foil piece: a wee autumnal leaf 17-18. Christmas copper foiled decorations. 19. A bad attempt at fusing…

I then moved on to do a piece using scrap glass… I made it in neutrals first (12) before making it in rainbow colours 🌈 (13-15)

Immediately went back and moved on to the next design: simple leaf. This was definitely not simple… 5. Mapping out the colours 6. Almost finished leading 7. Finished piece!

This design is a large leaf. I’ve chosen to do it in browns, so it looks very autumnal.

2025 had several lows but one of the positives was me discovering stained glass 🥰 A thread of everything I’ve made since Aug 2025 that I remembered to take a picture of: 1. Picking colours 2. Cut glass 3. First foray into leading 4. Finished piece!

All the glass has been cut and laid out in the design.

Around half of the piece is leaded here.

We had our #UofGMPH2425 induction yesterday! It's always super energising being around our new students. A wee snippet of the 80+ students in this year's cohort attached...We've got students from all over the world, and from all different disciplines (engineering might be a first!)
