Gigi is enjoying the open windows, for now. Sadly the heatwave returns tomorrow. And yes, I think about the weather a lot. But I live in a perimenopausal body that is only comfortable in limited conditions these days.
It’s Kitty Corner time with Gigi. She’s been in that same spot for over an hour.
Trying to get to sleep just as the AQI soars to an even more hazardous level.
Thinking about everyone impacted by the Canadian wildfires. Which will include those of us in the Twin Cities soon, but not at the absolutely apocalyptic AQI levels being experienced in the Duluth / Cloquet area right now.
We hired arborists to trim our trees in front. It’s happening now and our cats are fascinated / concerned.
Day two of closed windows due to the heatwave. Hajime has been voicing his displeasure loudly and often.
What a wonderful thing to be able to walk from our home into the happy chaos of the @wedge.live Cat Tour. We saw many fine felines, friends, and neighbors.
Twice this week I had to fast for medical tests. Today I wasn’t even allowed water. But after I treated myself to breakfast at Shish, with a pistachio latte.
Our entire building shook a little bit ago. I wasn't sure what was going on. Took my headphones off and heard chainsaws. Apparently our street is closed so a giant tree across the way could come down. Our poor cats are on edge now.
The Parkway is one of my favorite venues in town. Last night we enjoyed an intimate show there with River Butcher and opener Gabby OK. I’ve been a fan of River’s in all of their incarnations. But even more so now that we’ve both been diagnosed with autism and ADHD.
Our orange tabby, Hajime, relaxes by stretching one or both of his front paws out. And/or by stealing my desk chair.
This afternoon we sampled our first Sparglefest at the Black Forest. After catching a free screening of “Perfect Days” at the Pillsbury Theater at MIA. A pretty perfect day.
Patio weather has arrived. Last night we enjoyed Sea Salt for the second time in a week.
Then we were front row and center for the majesty of Charlene Kaye. And the second to last performance of her Tiger Daughter show which was sold out.
Last night we met up with friends at The Sidecar for pre-show drinks and snacks.
The Parkway Theater is one of my favorite places in town. So much so that we wound up in the front row Thursday and Friday night for very different shows. First, for The Joy Formidable. Fabulous.
Despite a packed day, I took an after work walk. And encountered a baby (held by parental units) screaming in the peace garden. Relatable. But the wailing pierced through my noise canceling headphones. So I kept on trucking and took in the sights.
After the afternoon show at the VFW, we mosied over to moto-i for drinks and snacks. Sadly, they had already closed their rooftop patio hours ahead of the storm but we had a nice time anyhow.
Last week there was a cat named Tater Tot at the gym. Tonight we had a return visit by a sweet dog named Luna. And this is how they keep me coming back to the gym.
I went back into better sleep hygiene mode last night and made sure my phone wasn’t anywhere near my bed, which was good. Unfortunately, Gigi decided 5am was cuddle time, so I never got back to sleep. On the bright side, I received an hour and a half of premium Gigi cuddles.
Mother’s Day is complicated for me, as it is for many. But yesterday was good. Spent the day with my son & my partner: brunch at Dreamstate Cafe, wandering Lakewood Cemetery for Doors Open Minneapolis, soaking up sun on the patio at L2 at Tii Cup, then home to play Quiplash and watch Dust Bunny.
My wonderful partner joined three generations of my family. My Dad bought a Hamm’s hoodie and told us Saint Paul stories. He’s got some gruesome ones from his early SPD days in the 60s. But also talked about women he dated before he met my mother.
Yesterday marked 37 years since my brother Tom died. For complicated reasons my Dad hadn’t been to the cemetery since the funeral in 1989 (I visit at least twice a year). So I took him. Then we had lunch at Saint Paul Brewing then cocktails across the way at Crowbar.
This is how my tacos found me, delivery driver. The salsa had an escape hatch. The bag was more of a concept than a container. My dinner arrived like it survived something. Somewhere between Rusty Taco and my door, everything went through a breakup.
My home office has a great view of the squirrel fence travel corridor. Sometimes they stretch out to sploot when it’s sunny.
Minnebar20 is happening this Saturday, May 2nd! My talk is scheduled for Session Block 5 from 1:25 to 2:05 PM. There are many amazing talks planned for the same slot, but if you are interested in mine, there is still time to vote. sessions.minnestar.org/sessions/1923
