Her. Yer woman. You know; the one with too many books, a mad cat, and an online footprint that wanders back to the usenet days. Northern Irish.
These panko prawns were delicious, and the spicing didn’t taste like it came from a Northern Irish menu. (Third time trying to post, no idea what’s going on)
Is that a good thing or bad thing? We stuck to one of our locals and had some really nice food and booze.
Cause the nightspots spend your spirit, beat your head against the wall, two dead-ends and you've still got to choose
While trying to give the local blackbirds space to eat, without hassle from the magpies, I might be making friends with the local hooded crows. They’re still awful easy startled. This is what they did when I lifted my phone to take a pic. Before that I’d been sitting just watching the activity.
I had to go to the Asian supermarket today to get Mum the garlic and root ginger she likes. So of course I wandered down the crispy snack aisle too.
And there was me thinking seeing some snail-on-snail action was an exciting Sunday morning wildlife encounter!
Mix well, bake in a 1lb loaf tin at 180C for ~50 mins or until a skewer comes out clean. I’ve reduced the sugar to ⅓ cup and used everything from caster to Demerara. Christmas cake spices, fruit tea, walnuts, vanilla extract and ripe bananas are good in it too. 2/2
Yup. When #SamCat was still #SamKitten the 2021 heatwave wasn’t enough to stop his zoomies. After a long gallop around the house, he slumped on the windowsill panting enough to worry me. So I blanketed him with wet kitchen roll and kept damping it, so he’d lick the water off his fur.
Sound on for this one! On Sunday night we recorded what looks like a hedgehog stand of, where the hog who was at the bowl eating, started making a series of grunting noises at the other hog who dared to wander by.
Here’s a hedgehog getting its Friday night drinking session sorted. The dish it’s chosen to drink from this time is the plant pot saucer filled with big stones and water that I originally put out for the insects.
I don’t know if you remember my Twitter posts about how we were worried about his seeming inability to drink water. It turned out he just couldn’t drink from a cat-sized bowl, and now we have a bird bath in the kitchen.
Looks like someone has managed to keep their weight up over Winter, and might even be regretting layering the floor in their hutch so deeply. Alt text: Night camera view of a hedgehog’s rear as it squeezes into a hutch. Really squeezes, the hog’s legs can be seen pushing hard to get in.
I made a tea loaf today, following the gist of a recipe that’s been around in my family for longer than I have: Turn oven on to 180C Put 1 cup of mixed fruit in a bowl Pour over 1 cup of hot, black tea. Let the fruit soften Mix in half a cup of caster sugar >
I made this for dinner tonight www.kaveyeats.com/japanese-sim... with thanks to @kavey.bsky.social for the recipe. Our mystery veg bag squash pretty much disintegrated, but the flavour was delicious.
I got this one designed for me by a human LARPing as AI. I think it’s got more soul than those monstrosities.
It’s not all shoving when two hogs meet beneath the shed. Here’s two just bimbling along on their own hoggy business.
In honour of Hedgehog Day, (which was on 2nd Feb) here’s one of our local hogs checking out the camera.
The Monch Bunch are not the best behaved hogs. This isn’t the first shoving session we’ve seen, but it’s one of the more determined ones.
Since we can’t tell the hogs apart, I’ve taken to thinking of them as The Monch Bonch. Here we see a little hedgehog doing a Very Big Yawn.
I see you hoggy, shakin that ass. (I thought it was about time I updated the BlueSky hedgehog thread).
