The beloved bookstore Book Soup is temporarily closed because of flooding on Sunset due the bursting main water pipe. I had my launch for my novel, The Lyric Hotel, at Book Soup. Everyone was so supportive. We need Book Soup to open soon. Rooting for a speedy recovery.

Well, this was fun! Spontaneously, seeing North by Northwest on the big screen, for the first time, at Cinematheque.
Singer Jimmy Scott would have been 100 today. I recorded this very personal homage to Jimmy with the wonderful pianist, Alex Minasian, who accompanied Jimmy the last 7 years of his life.The song was inspired by a vivid memory of Jimmy singing for me at Savoy Records when I was 10-years.
So much fear, anger and injustice in this world now. Every day brings a new threat to our well-being. Our minds need to take a vacation. I hope my novel, The Lyric Hotel, transports you to a place of longing, music and hope.

Last night, I had the treat of seeing The Harlem Quartet featuring Cuban American virtuosos, Ilmar and Aldo López-Gavilán. To be seated in a lovely theater, enveloped by harmonies, played by wonderful musicians, was a joyous reminder of the best side of humanity.
