Text of my letter to him:
Hi Simon

Just wanted to register my concern at these comments on your FB page.

I would comment directly but apparently one of your staff has blocked me from your page - great look for a government minister!

I am not sure what planet you have been living on but every district in Aotearoa has been experiencing increasingly worse climate events over the last five years and significant changes in climate over the last two decades. These weather events are getting worse not better.

That is not extremism. That is reality, a matter of record and simple science.

Most councils are not able to fully restore services before the next one hits and that is not helped by your government's short-sighted decision to strip the Climate Resilience Fund to reward your donors.

It is a gross abuse of your position of privilege for you to try to pass the buck to councils who are simply trying to do the best they can after your government has dumped so much extra mahi and responsibility on them with none of the resources necessary to actual complete those tasks properly.

It's obvious that your government is a bit slack on your obligations regarding the Public Records Act so, yes, this does count as official correspondence and yes, you do have to make it part of the discoverable record under the Official Information Act and the Privacy Act, and also any conversations, notes or other dialogue you might have about the content or the author.
