very possibly bait I'm sure, but I enjoyed this post from an allotment subreddit

reddit post by user notheranymore2 which is titled "Wait ....... gherkins are just pickled cucumber???" and reads " I was showing my son the pickled shallots I'd prepared and he asked why we don't try gherkins like in McDonald's

So a quick Internet search is selling me that gherkins are picked baby cucumber??

We have had so many mini mumch cucumbers that weve been throwing them in the compost (after handing some out in work and to neighbours)

Could i have been making gherkins this whole time????"

Some Hiroshige faces

all of the following are photos taken by me at the Manchester Whitworth's exhibition on Ukiyo-e woodcut prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige. This one is from Rice Market at Dojima from the serious Famous Views of Osaka. Among the hubub of the rice market, someone is talking loudly to his friend. His mouth splits his face open like a slice taken out of a melon. He looks like Pac-man.

From Akasaka: Inn with Serving Maids from the series Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido Road. A maid is serving food to a man lounging, a man is kneeling besides her. His face is kinda confusing, I guess he has a moustache above his mouth and his his nose turned up.

A big shame about New Doctor Who blowing up the time lords is the writers can no longer name characters by looking up increasingly obscure professions. This guy was called the castellan.

When Peppa Pig went to a jurassic park, the authors couldn't be bothered with palaeontologists changing their minds on what dinosaurs existed, so they didn't give them any species names but referred to them by a characteristic like the dwarves in Snow White

All of the following are pictures of a children's book against a red carpet. The pages are shiny, and the tabs have been flipped to reveal a dinosaur. Here, a rather gormless orange thing which I would call a Triceratops is saying "Grrr!". The text on the back of the flap says "We done, Peppa" says Grampy Rabbit. "You've found the spiky-tailed dinosaur." The tail is not shown in this picture, but it is spiky.

Here a yellow Diplodocus that is very small indeed is eating some ground-covering vegetation. It's got spots, brown chicken-feet, and a long neck (for its size). The text calls it "the hungry dinosaur". To the left, Grandpa Rabbit has a white beard and a straw hat with a red ribbon, like he's Hammond. There is also a pig wearing a dinosaur onesie in a wheelchair and an elephant in a safari hat.

In a tube or yellow barrel, sleeps a red dinosaur. It's got a rhino horn, and two red bunny ears. A crest? I thought this was a triceratops too, but it's definitely only got the one horn. The text refers to it as "the sleeping dinosaur", and it is the thing that prompted this post. What is it meant to be?

It's a blue t-rex, again rather undersized, or possibly very far away. It's standing very upright, and its tiny arms are sticking straight out. The text refers to it as "the sharp-toothed dinosaur."

Every so often you find yourself walking past a doorway like this.

A photo of a doorway in Cambridge. The door itself is out of shot but the wooden semi-circular transome window is. In the red brick is a deeper red tile semi circle around the transom, about a foot deep. The cornerstone of this arch is a fucked up lions face, its jaw agape, trailing ribbons or some such, ensconced in a decorative scroll. The cornerstone is supporting a gable window which is also out of shot.

Ah, yes, that famous painting, the Pink Tablecloth

A print of Matis' painting the Pink Tablecloth, much sun-faded, the only surviving colour is shades of blue. The painting itself is of a still life, lemons on a raised dish, sunflowers in a vase, patterned curtains, all in blue. I guess it kinda looks artistic like a Matis should. You can see the reflection of a building in the glass frame protecting the print.

I saw this callout post, and the only reason I'm showing it to you is because I enjoyed this interaction that makes clear the guy is being drawn as an embodiment of death in, you know, a postive way.

A post from twitter, a user posted a drawing of a skeleton dude in a black jacket, cap, face-mask, ICE-branded tactical vest, holding a smoking gun. Beneath it, is a reply "So, you'd just let anyone walk into your house? Got it." which gets a reply from the artist "This is a pro ICE drawing". I've redacted all the user-names and avatars, and blurred the artist's signature

the UK trains subreddit is getting softly roiled by a spate of "What if the HS2 served [blank]" posting

I believe this is the original, presumably serious, illustration for "what if the HS2 served Stratford Upon-Avon. Posted by RussellNorrisPiastri, it's a mock up of the intended route between London and Birmingham, but with a fairly short sput leading to Stratford Upon-Avon. The map includes a detail of the acceleration of the HS1 train.

Again, an altered map showing the proposed HS2 route for "What if Milford Haven was served by HS2" posted by reddit user ddiflas_iawn. Now the route takes a much longer spur, longer than the orignal planned route, to Milford Haven, a small Welsh village at the furthest extremity of Northern Wales. A fact added to the map claims it will drop the journey time to Milford Haven by 2 minutes.

The map includes the text "HS2 if it was useful???"
