Ooh! Onion chili sauce. I remember a dog in Reno with a "red onion" sauce that was spectacular. And look at those 2014 prices!
I see Maverik is pushing hard with ads on Meta platforms for Kum & Go swag. Piss off! You rebranded the stores and took away a cultural icon. I'd rather buy from a knock-off Etsy shop instead.
The coney from 2014 in comparison. FYI, growing up with all three Coney Islands (downtown, Jim's, and Ted's) and George the Chili King, cheese wasn't something I had with a chili dog.
The chili is rather good and a step up from the bean-laden chili of yesteryear. A line of mustard would have been a good compliment, but I was giddy enough to get my hands on a footlong coney in likely double-digit years.
A footlong hot dog from the Coney Corner stand at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Soft bun, tasty wiener, grilled onions, with sides of chili and cheese sauce. With chili, it’s a pretty decent coney. I skipped on the cheese sauce.
Guy in back thinking, "Do they know about Topol, the smoker's toothpaste?"
I suggested a menu item to The Empire on Fourth in DSM, and now it has come to fruition. The Breakfast Bowl with cheesy eggs, tots, and spicy sausage gravy, with toast. All for seven bucks!
Not prohibiting dumpster diving, just not taking responsibility for anyone getting injured while delving through the trash pile.
Day old pastry (half-off!) and a fresh Mayan Mocha. At The Empire on Fourth. #DSM
Feeling splurgy, I also grabbed a container of the regular blue cheese crumbles for a bargain price plus some garlic & herb cheddar spread made for Maytag Dairy Farms. The latter is pretty darn good on a Premium saltine. I'll save the crumbles to make a sandwich spread to enjoy on a baguette.
Speaking of which, I also picked up a 12-year-old Cheddar made for Maytag Dairy Farms that did not disappoint. It's quite sharp with some crystal crunch that excites my palate.
Maytag Dairy Farms' Farm Reserve blue cheese. It's drier and more crumbly than its younger, more familiar cousin. It's not a funk monster, so if you're a casual fan of blue, you should enjoy this cheese. The rind has a wee hint of crystal I find so appealing, like that found in aged cheddar.
Welp. I'll say this. It's a whole lot better than using an anthropomorphic chicken.
LOL. I took a pic of the ingredients to cover bases should anyone I shared these with had an allergy. Then I did a word select and this was one error I missed correcting.
Today’s nosh. A Mish-Mosh Cookie from Scenic Route Bakery in #DSM, with bran, outs, coconut, and dappled with butterscotch, white, and chocolate chips.
