I read this for the first time when my mental state was at its worst. My bpd wasnt diagnosed yet but man was it obvious lol
I think the reason it impacted me so much this time instead of last time is because at one point in my life i *was* charlie.
I always wanted to put everyone else first because i felt like i needed to make myself small, so no one would know how badly i was hurting. I often fumbled and said the wrong things and buried everything.
Im also a CSA survivor that was hurt by someone in my family, and later abused and SAed by a boyfriend my freshman year of high school who was 3 years older than me.
The letter from charlie at the end was where i started crying because like him, i kept going. I made it. I have a wonderful fiance and friends when at one point in my life i felt so alone. By the time i graduated high school i still felt lost but i kept going like he did.
I was charlie, and now im a grown up charlie and sometimes still lost. But i know i can get through things i thought i never would.
I love this book so much. It handles so many topics so well, despite being YA.

Bloom by delilah s dawson was awful and i wanted to love this. It reads like really bad sapphic hannibal fanfic and i think if the story was longer i may have been more generous. Disclosure: the author did request i read this, through instagram dms. I did so through kindle unlimited.
It is refreshing to see an author write a vampire book that is centered on the vampirism instead of centering on the romance. And i say that as a vampire romance girlie, by the way. Its something ive not seen in a while and its nice, a change in form.
Kadryn is also a name ive never seen before. And she's a really interesting protagonist because she starts out dreading it and hating it but by the end shes a natural.
I want to know more abt who the guy who bit her was. She deserves a new camera after all that for real. I think having something i treasure like that broken would make me insufferable.
I recommend this book. :) its really good. I dont want to delve into plot *too much*

Ultimately i think that this book would have been better if it didnt center around her relationship w josh Theres some talk of her processing what happened to her and then theres parts she just perpetuates the cycle.

Review from goodreads of the way i am now by amber smith.
It says "I have a complicated relationship with this book.
I love the first book because its primarily abt eden and her journey with recovering after SA and speaking up
Book 2 is about her relationship w a guy who broke up with her bc of legal repercussions and not nearly as much abt her. Like over 60% of this is about josh, who she dated for a couple months max as a freshman in high school.
Shes so obsessed w him she applies to his school, and hes so hung up on her.
If this book were just from edens pov it might be that i felt differently.
Josh as a character is inconsistent, not unlike in book 1. One minute hes understanding of her and wants to be there and the next hes judging her for her medication and inability to communicate
This all frustrates me bc i resonate w both characters. My dads an alcoholic. I had a binge drinking era. I got my degree in psychology. Im a survivor who experienced SA multiple times and i coped similarly to eden in book 1 by trying to reclaim my body. I was the age eden was when i was assaulted by my abuser. I felt invisible to my parents for years after what i went through. I have issues communicating now even years later.
I get that people want to see a happy ending after something so dark like the first book was. I thought book 1 ended at a fine place. Instead the author wrote a 2nd book abt her relationship w the guy who only broke up w her bc of legal repercussions. They had moments that were sweet, and it was nice to see eden ready to heal. Its admirable the author took the time to discuss the legal aspects to the justice system and SA.
I just was so disappointed w this book. Eden becomes ready to date again in theory but not really in practice. I kept wanting to yell at both characters that they're being stupid.

Man. I loved the way i used to be. That book is so important to me. Genuinely this one shouldnt exist. It adds nothing and centers on her relationship w the guy who dumped her in high school bc she lied abt her age. Suddenly her age is ok when shes 17. I want my time back. 2 stars. #BookSky💙📚
