mentioned it in the Stokastic Discord, but I am a big fan of what Chayka has done with the Leafs blue line. Looking at 2-year facilitation A3Z tracking data (assists on chances/rush/cycle, HD passes, zone exits/entries with possession etc.), the gaps between Raddysh/Carlo and Andrae/Benoit are large

decided to go with a horizontal chart and have been messing with the colors. This is better but still not where I want it to be.

with the Blues trading for Brandon Carlo, this sums up my feelings about puck-moving defencemen on STL's blue line:

Interesting thing about JJ Peterka's fantasy value: comparing his 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, by goals, assists, shots, blocks, hits and PIMs per 60 minutes, they were very similar (left). The big fantasy value drop was driven almost entirely by power-play usage (right):

Zellweger has some of the wildest tracking numbers you'll see from a defenceman. Incredibly high rate of zone entries and carry-in rates, and incredibly low playmaking rates. You don't often see that (with Thomas Chabot for comparison)

saw the Alex Nikishin rumours. I was looking at some of his tracking data relative to other CAR dmen and nothing stands out. Not bad, but not good. He was a rookie but he turns 25 in October. And if CAR wanted to trade a rookie dman, I would be instantly wary about why they wanted to do that.

re: Kyrou, I thought I'd highlight the difference between the WSH and STL defence groups. Here is the A3Z tracking data for assists off the rush or forecheck/cycle, high-danger assists, and assists on teammate scoring chances.

Samoskevich to Seattle perked my ears up a bit. He's a guy I had circled for a breakout. By contributions to the rush, cycle/forecheck, and scoring chances, as well as zone entries and % of zone entries carried in, his last two years compare similarly to the most coveted trade chip this offseason

if we take out penalty minutes, he falls to sixth, but the third-best season of any non-Makar defenceman (Josi in 21-22 and Gostisbehere in 25-26 are the others):
