It doesn't look like much now but I also began with ths patterning for her clothes I tried a new way to draft a fitted half circle cape but it came up not as full as I like so it needed a little slash and spread The top is my typical bust dart pattern but gathered fabric ontop will sell the look

During my quick jaunt up to NYC I picked up some off cuts of white leather that I later dyed for her boots. I used a pair of actual shoes as the base pattern then sewed the leather to layers of cotton flannel, canvas, and a lining fabric to give it some thickness and body

I was looking for an old build thread and came across this picture, so I thought an update would be fun. Alicia and Cithis ended up on the chopping block for this year but next year is more likely. There's also a non zero chance a simple build or two will get added to the end of the year 😅

Her larger necklace has white gems that I wanted to mimic druzy quartz I poured a mix of glitter and expoxy resin into a mold, then once cured did another texturizing glitter coat with UV. They come out pink from the iridescent so adding a gloss varnish mixed with pearl mica gets the quartz look

Once painted some portions of the pattern recieved foiling. To make the design blend better with the other shades of gold and look weathered I lightly sanded the foil with 220 grit sandpaper before sewing to the base. The full shawl is cut on the bias for body and reinforced with horsehair braid.

After coloring the wool I could add in the the felt. Part of the reason I chose wool was to needle felt in roving to make the moss felt appear as it was growing on me With the skirt finished I could move onto the Ampechone, a sort of shawl. I began with stenciling patterns commonly on pottery

No matter what I did the wool REFUSED to take more dye for a deeper color. So Dyenaflow to the rescue. I also used to the shade the folds and shift the tone of a mosaic bands so it looks like a carved in detail It takes a away some of my ice dyeing but it happens

I had some free time (after a quick post Yeti break) to start on the moss for her clothes. Which is wet felt from roving I dyed myself. Once I have most of the clothes finish I'll use extra roving to needle felt the transition between the two, making it look like the moss is growing on the fabric

Clips were added and the elastic was stitched down but I still need to decide what to cover it with I look like an old lady with it in 😅

The wig was in progress until I ran out of hairspray. I created batting from teased jumbo braid and a bun net then sewed into the wig. Similarly to those fancy updos with real hair, I smoothed layers over it and compressed flyaways with an elastic strip. I glued the moss onto felt and then the wig

Larger designs sell the effect more After attaching my applique fabric to Steam-a-Seam 2 (its repositionable) I cut it into 1/4 inch strips. Then individually cut pieces from the strips as I go for variation to be more natural. Works better with multicolor fabric but I got away with ice dyeing

Started on my favorite (and most tedious) concept for this project. Interpreting some patterns on her clothes as mosaics (calling back the stone and clay thing) You can see my first attempt using 1/2 in squares but in the end 1/4 works better

I used a Osaka from coscraft for the wig, cut an UNGODLY amount of hair out of it but it turned out so nice The Noshi and Takanaga were made from nice mulberry paper I've had since I was a pre-teen (I took sumi-e classes). I interface it with heat n bond for crispness but it still needs the Mizuhiki

And here we are! I cut out my chihiya out of silk and cotton broadcloth, but I may add some interfacing for crispness. I'll have to work on the textile prints before I can sew it together but that's my first roadblock-getting clear reference to make a stencil 😭

Miko wear Kosode, precursor to modern day kimono. The patterning is very simple, I think the sleeves are shorter and the okumi is wider? I was also able to resuse some of my old kimono dressing tools
