‼️Just learned, another Venezuelan doctor detained. All documents were fine. But this is not about the documents. And her 5 year old child is detained with her and the child is a US citizen.
There are not enough US Med School grads to fill all available residency slots. I wrote about it last fall. The math just is not working.
And while we are advocating for ways to get doctors to their training programs, on X Typhoid Mary and Do No Harm attack those who matched to residency spots.
Means does not have an active license. A doctor may not complete residency but have an active license per state laws. But once you license is inactive it means that you don't have an active license. So her license was issued initially until 12/31/2027 but was inactivated on 1/1/2026.
I just saw this on Instagram. This is exactly the point. Immigrants are part of this country; they contribute to its greatness. Immigration is not a failure or something to be ashamed of. And it is not evil that requires people to be detained or put in cages.

This is right on point. If foreign-trained doctors had to pay $100,000 to move to the U.S., there would be no rural or underserved medicine. I have worked in underserved, suburban, and rural settings, as well as in community and public health hospitals. I know very well who fills those places.
While aimed at tech, I just heard of somebody in the medical field who canceled their travel to the US fearing to be denied entry. And this paragraph is worrisome for all H1B holders
