Somnus
@somnus-game
Somnus is a tactical co-op game for 1-4 payers in a dystopian science fiction setting. Game Design and Art by Falk Haensel and Taylor Wallace. No AI !
There is a lot of variety how you design your character in Somnus. Each weapon alone has so many different options. Those alien creatures out there need you to adapt. Can you find the most efficient combination to win the scenarios? #boardgames
One of my multiple failed attempts to paint the cover. Its hard, but fun. I just feel like its not really what its supposed to be haha :) #boardgames #boardgameart
Another alien illustration finished. Can't wait to see how my 3D artist is translating this into a 3D miniature :) #boardgames #boardgameart #aliens
Some heavy work load slowed down my progress on the Somnus illustrations, but I still invest all my painting energy I have left throughout the weeks. A new little creature is finalized. More to come soon. #boardgames #boardgameart #conceptart
It is official! The great team from PHANTOM EPOCH invited us to design a guest scenario, and it can be in the world of Somnus! PHANTOM EPOCH is live on a very successful Kickstarter run right now. All co-op lovers check it out, it's an amazing game! www.kickstarter.com/projects/dot... #boardgames
And another enemy illustration finished. The work on the 3D miniatures has started, I can't wait :) #boardgames #boardgameart #creatures #conceptart #noai
Another alien bug illustration finished. This one explodes!! #boardgames #creatures #conceptart #noai
The illustration for Amaranth is finished. Working on something bigger now for the game, will share soon. #boardgames #boardgameart #conceptart
Another elite alien illustration finished. Also having some really nice and exciting developments to show and share soon! I feel like having butterflies in my tummy :) #boardgames #coopgames #boardgameart
The Devourer is a creature you can play as, using your own blood for massive attacks and then eating aliens to grow even more powerful. Beside all the art, we are working on lots of small tweaks and balancing changes. I really enjoy this long process of working on a project. #boardgames #gameart
The Somnus prototype is now fully updated on TTS and Tabletopia with all the new player boards and a lot of small improvements and additions. If anybody wants to play a round, let me know. #boardgames #playtesting
Looking forward to this weekend. Is anyone else going? :) #boardgames #protospiel
All the sleeper boards are updated to the new format. Now onto the shell boards... #boardgames
The Scout. One of their powers is flying, but during painting I realized it looks odd to give the Scout wings, makes them look like an angel, which might be confusing. So we are changing their power to teleportation. It will achieve the same thing and plays even snappier. #boardgameart #boardgames
Another fun prototype session of one of my favourite missions in Somnus. It's always nice to see playtesters come up with new creative ideas in the game, but that the game still works and doesn't get pushed out of balance. #boardgames
Another shell illustration done, two more to go. (Mostly focusing on the art for the game at the moment.) #boardgameart #boardgames #conceptart
SHE is a mysterious woman you will meet in the story of Somnus. Blind and unable to speak, but with a powerful ability, perhaps an important link to the alien scourge network. #boardgameart #boardgames #conceptart
In Somnus, players gain charges which can be used to unleash powerful abilities. But if you're not careful, your Shell will overcharge in a glorious random effect. This one is definitely very close to overcharging! Had a lot of fun painting this. #boardgameart #conceptart #games
How do you feel about dice? Love them, hate them? I really wanted to have dice in Somnus. Love their tactile feel, the sounds they make and the emotions they bring into a game. So fun, as long as there is enough mitigation to your luck and your decisions still feel tactical. #boardgames #dice
𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙧𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙩𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 𝙞𝙣 𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙠, 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙡, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙝 𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚. 𝙄𝙩𝙨 𝙗𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙢𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙧𝙞𝙡𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙪𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙙, 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙣𝙤𝙣𝙚. #boardgameart #games #gamedev
I've been asked if I use AI for my paintings. No, I don't. One of these illustrations take me about 50h to complete, I paint slow. How do you feel about AI? I feel a sense of threat. Maybe in a few years all our efforts are going to be irrelevant when the tech is taking over. #illustration #art
One element of difficulty scaling for player counts in Somnus is in the swarm alien spawn cards. You will see a lot of these little bugs in each mission. While alone they are not very dangerous, in masses they can become a real danger. #boardgames #cards #swarm
In Somnus you'll meet some scary creatures. But perhaps it'll turn out that they are a reflection of yourself... #boardgames #boardgameart #conceptart
Working on a home made prototype for Somnus was a lot of fun. Happy that everything translated well from digital to reality. I always love to see prototypes of games, please show me yours! #boardgames #prototype #crafting
𝑵𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒈𝒊𝒂: 𝒂 𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒅 𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒓𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏. In Somnus, the world has changed: loved ones are gone, living conditions are unstable, knowledge is forever lost, washed away by the Scourge. But some things are still out there waiting to be salvaged. #boardgames #art
The runner has their illustration finalized, and made some improvements to the shell boards (better icon readability). #boardgames #tabletopgames
Some progress on the alien illustrations. #boardgames #boardgameart #conceptart #art
Behemoth Role: tank / damage dealer The heaviest shell in Somnus. Very slow movement, but hits hard and can achieve the most armor. Versatile weapon upgrade options and the ability to defeat multiple enemies in one hit make Behemoth the favourite for some players. #boardgames #tabletopgames
In Somnus your character has a psychic power. Which one would you choose in reality? A) Teleport: Blink to any place you can see. B) Resource: Create a bit of money every day. C) Mind Control: Make your enemies do what you want. D) Support: Help your friends to achieve what they want. #boardgame
For Somnus we have created more than 20 unique missions, each with their own objectives and enemy composition to test your tactical skills. This took us almost 1000 play tests to get the balance right and make them feel good to play. Lots of fun :) #boardgames #tabletopgames
