This remains one of my favourite Warhammer pieces I have done. Smth just clicked in my brain Fucking love spoders Aeldari. WARP jumping for an Aeldari is just so insane.
The client and I had a lot of back and forth about what would fit Syn. Something between the elegant Wych and the garish Archon. Drukharis are beautiful but smth about them should be at least a little menacing.
Then the thumbnails and silhouettes work begin. I swap between doing a more detailed sketch as a trial for the char and silhouettes for the shape language.
First, I just do simple sketches of the whole character or some smaller details. Importantly, I try to just draw without overthinking every decision.
References hunting is one of my favourite phases of char design. This is basically the cradle of the character where my ideas start brewing. She's not a proud and secure archon; she's an indulgent warrior out of place in the high luxury she's nonetheless surrounding herself with.
Synartha is weirdo of a Drukhari. She has been a Wych of a lower arena most of her life alongside her sister, despite being a trueborn. Unlike most trueborns, she actually doesn't hate her sister and starts her own Kabal to not let their rivalry destroy them.
Lelith wondered if they should invite Yvraine, but she and Jain-Zar aren't on speaking terms anymore. Lhykis didn't give a fuck and meshed down more snacks.
Vampire hunter D has convinced me that this would be THE aesthetic for animations about the aeldari.
