Not only is this a hideous reconfiguration of the logic of antisemitism, it is a literal ISIS argument. (Taqiyyah is far more associated with Shia Islam, given history of persecution. ISIS explicitly cited taqiyyah to justify its campaign of extermination against Shia Muslims.)

Abstract
Can exposure to celebrities from stigmatized groups reduce prejudice? To address this question, we study the case of Mohamed Salah, a visibly Muslim, elite soccer player. Using data on hate crime reports throughout England and 15 million tweets from British soccer fans, we find that after Salah joined Liverpool F.C., hate crimes in the Liverpool area dropped by 16% compared with a synthetic control, and Liverpool F.C. fans halved their rates of posting anti-Muslim tweets relative to fans of other top-flight clubs. An original survey experiment suggests that the salience of Salah’s Muslim identity enabled positive feelings toward Salah to generalize to Muslims more broadly. Our findings provide support for the parasocial contact hypothesis—indicating that positive exposure to out-group celebrities can spark real-world behavioral changes in prejudice.

In fact, over the course of the Cold War, U.S. historians and politicians were often quite sophisticated in incorporating the darkest chapters of U.S. history into a triumphalist narrative that sought to justify Washington’s expansive role in the world. Rather than ignore U.S. empire, they offered a sanitized version of its flaws, before concluding that the good intentions animating the entire imperial enterprise had finally found their proper outlet in the country’s more principled Cold War policy.

The tragic irony, on display in Trump’s foreign policy today, is that the narrative worked all too well. Because he’s convinced that the U.S. liberal internationalist tradition really was selfless, Trump has instead embraced gunboat diplomacy with a glee that was already unseemly in the 1950s.

Albanese's speech to be, see Rubio Statement at 1-2 (labeling Albanese's speech as "biased
and malicious," "antisemiti[c]," and "extreme"). Indeed, the "proudest boast" of our First
Amendment is that it protects the freedom to express even "the thought that we hate."
Mata! v. Tam, 582 U.S. 218, 246 (2017) (quoting United States v. Schwimmer, 279 U.S.
644, 655 (1929) (Holmes, J., dissenting)). Enough said.
CONCLUSION
For the foregoing reasons, it is hereby ORDERED that Plaintiffs' Motion for a
Preliminary Injunction [Dkt. #3] is GRANTED. An accompanying order will issue
contemporaneously with this opinion.

On February 19th, the BLM published a Notice of Intent to gut the management plans governing nearly 2.5 millicy acres of these forests across 18 counties. The proposal seeks to eliminate old-growth and wildlife protections to facilitate what the agency calls “maximum" logging capacity.

The stated goal is to accelerate timber harvest to approximately one billion board feet per year. That's four times current levels. It would match the peak production of the 19ous, before the Endangered Species Act existed, before anyone with authority cared whether a spotted owl or a salmon run survived the next decade.

i've been working on a report which, in part, evaluates the United States' approach to economic sanctions in 2025 and these are the last lines i drafted before signing off last night.

The United States’ conciliatory stance towards Russia cannot be explained simply by a Trump administration penchant for peace because the Trump administration has taken a polar opposite approach towards Iran and Venezuela. The U.S. approach towards both nations was characterized not only by increased sanctions pressure but actual military force.

Or, alternatively, if easing sanctions pressure is how this administration seeks peace, then it is clear the U.S. has sought out war in Iran and Venezuela. And if that is the case, then it appears this administration is not using economic sanctions as a tool short of war to avert conflict but instead as an escalation on the road to conflict.
