I’m Southey Blanton. I’m running for NC Senate District 25. I was born and raised in NC and I’m running to fight for public schools, the kids that attend them and the teachers and staff that make them great! www.southey4senate.com
I was in Randolph County Monday night. It is very conservative, so conservative that its unincorporated portions are still a dry county. They were standing room only at the county commissioner meeting and every single person there was anti data center, and they were mad.
I got to speak at the Randolph County Commissioners meeting last night in support of public libraries. Their livestream was a little wonky but I was able to grab a bit of audio. #fundpubliclibraries @prisonculture.bsky.social
One of the best parts of running for office is meeting the people who I hope to represent in the General Assembly. Below is information about events I’ll be attending over the next week, feel free to share and join if you like! #southey4senate #fundpublicschools #payteachersmore #ncpol
Had a really wonderful time last night in Raleigh for the @ncdp.org Unity Dinner. Got to hang out with current senate rockstars and future senate rockstars. Every event like this makes me push a little harder to flip a seat gerrymandered to be unwinnable.
Earning the endorsements of both Randolph County and Alamance Burlington Association of Educators is an incredible honor. I'm working hard to flip this district because there are incredible public schools and teachers all across NC Senate District 25. #ncpol
Met a sweet dog named Cake Pop today while canvassing. Then had a twenty minute convo with a voter about how difficult he found America’s 250th to celebrate. We are officially 100 days from Election Day, let’s go.
It's also very similar to what one Dem NC House Rep said last year regarding a bill that would require local law enforcement to work with ICE. She lost her primary in March. But she did vote to override the governor's veto out of spite and the bill passed.
Wont be getting sick at Arby’s if you stick to this guys item of choice.
Very excited to announce that I have been informed I can hire people to work on my campaign! I can hire paid fellows, thanks to the Progressive Turnout Project. Do you want to get paid to knock doors from August to November? Want to get training on working on a campaign? Then apply today!
Wife and I went to New Orleans for the Eras tour last fall. Small room, single bathroom. The door? Zero sound proofing, every single inch of the door could be seen through from all angles, and the hotel may have been sinking or listing like a ship as the door refused to stay shut on its own.
Running for office means lots of “firsts”. Such as my first town hall where I got to talk to voters from a ridiculously comfortable chair. And my first time trying to recruit Socksquatch to help me knock doors. #ncpol #southey4senate #NCSD25
Expanding the map and winning back the majority in the NC State Senate is doable. We just need the volunteers, support, and donations to keep going until November. Pitch in, or share with your friends who want to see North Carolina make some noise this fall. #southey4senate #ncpol
Ooo boy. Reminds me of every trip down to Myrtle Beach when you would hit that NC/SC state line. Go to the beach, and then have to take the car in for a tire rotation/balance/realignment after the trip.
Also I spent all evening in Randleman yesterday talking to people who can't pay their electric bill because of Duke Energy but were willing to talk with me and take a card and maybe give me $5 bucks, if that is bad for politics then what does that writer actually want?
Happy 4th to everyone, may your sparklers be bright, your hot dogs be plentiful, and your belief in a better world be unrelenting. #southey4senate #payteachersmore #fundpublicschools #4thofjuly
Shout to @bencollins.bsky.social and @theonion.com new arrival day is always big in this house. The oldest reads me every article out loud and our 8 year old loves to find the grossest ad.
Canvassing and talking to voters now is how I make a difference in November. While everyone is waiting for a state budget, we are putting in the work.
Did you know June 30th is the only campaign finance deadline before early voting starts in October? That means this number sets the bar for viability, support, and laying the groundwork to flip NC Senate District 25. #ncpol
There are five days until the June 30th campaign finance deadline in North Carolina. A big number means this race is competitive. I’m a one man team so every dollar goes right into taking back the majority in the NC Senate.
My six year old is obsessed with tornadoes. This is the kind of artwork he makes after watching hours of old news footage. This is also a new catchphrase in our house for when bad stuff is about to happen.
Juneteenth. A day that looms large in history and should push us to learn and listen when it comes to the men and women who fought for their freedom against incredible odds. Or if you're my opponent, you can talk about the burden of slavery on *checks notes* white women? #southey4senate #ncpol
Here in Alamance County in US House District 9 we held a town hall featuring @ojedafornc.bsky.social since Richard Hudson refuses to speak to constituents. It was a packed house.
Had a full day yesterday. Teacher retirement celebration, Juneteenth in Mebane, Juneteenth in Green Level, and then watched the Knicks win it all. Knocking doors today and going to precinct cookout. Remember to hydrate y’all. #southey4senate #passabudget #fundpublicschools #payteachersmore
Want a comfy shirt that you can easily wear when you are in the crawlspace turning off the water so you can replace a line to your fridge that also helps a candidate running to flip control of the NCGA so we can pass a budget? Then I have just the shirt for you! www.southey4senate.com/shirts
I guess I'm just built different. #southey4senate #dietcoke #ncpol #passabudget
I had the opportunity to speak last night at the Alamance County Commissioner meeting during the public hearing on the proposed county budget. I spoke in support of the full request made by ABSS as I've seen our teachers work their tails off all year with zero support from Raleigh.
We officially launched the campaign earlier this month in Gibsonville and had a fantastic time with friends, family, and other candidates for local, state, and national office. Let’s go win this thing. #southey4senate #fundpublicschools #ncpol #ncga
Escher finished his T-Ball season today and he had a great time. If he pursues baseball I will be no help. As the only at bat I ever had I was hit in the back by a future MLB pitcher and then picked off after I got to first.
