Well, this was a very heavy day for the Bill Barilko documentary. We walked for 2 hours, deep into the bush of northern Ontario to the place where Bill's plane crashed on Aug. 26, 1951. And as the video shows, it wasn't easy to get there. Only 30 people have made this trek.
We’re in McIntyre Arena in Timmins, where they still have one of the pontoons from the plane that crashed on Aug. 26, 1951, killing Maple Leafs defenseman Bill Barilko.
What a day. We are at Bill Barilko’s final resting place in Timmins, 64 yrs to the day that he was buried. Billy had disappeared on Aug. 26, 1951, while returning from a fishing trip in Quebec. His plane crashed and his remains were only discovered 11 years later. I left a puck, as many fans do.
Christopher Monette is our drone operator on the Bill Barilko documentary shoot. He’s on the spot where on Aug. 24, 1951, Barilko’s plane took off for that famous fishing trip, from which he never returned.

On August 24, 1951, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Bill Barilko and his friend Henry Hudson took off from this spot on Porcupine Lake in Timmins to go on a fishing trip, from which they would never return.

Charlie wrote a great song about Bashin' Bill, and has visited Bill's gravesite in Timmins every year since he was a kid. A fabulous day yesterday for the Bill Barilko documentary shoot. We interviewed Dan Donohue who has the actual puck that Bill popped in 75 years ago last month. Dan's dad jumped on to the ice after the game & retrieved the puck of the greatest goal in Maple Leafs' history.
Congrats to the Globe and Mail's Tony Keller on winning the Donner Prize for the best Canadian public policy book last night. Tony's book "Borderline Chaos" is a great read on how we got immigration right for so long in Canada... then didn't. The prize comes with a $60,000 cheque.
