Am I truly #unhoused if my #Vancouver Fairview parkade #homeless sleeping spot attracts Giant House Spiders (Eratigena duellica or Eratigena atrica)?
1482 W Broadway McD's still closed after power outage. I've opted for coffee shop bakery Anecdote at 1333 W Broadway. #Vancouver
Enticing smart ring advertising kiosk seen in the #Vancouver Kitsilano London Drugs. Don't recall Tolkien mentioning anything like this in "Lord of the Rings" but I bet Sauron had something similar.
Bought fossil gas & browsed for 5k mah power banks at #Vancouver Kits London Drugs. Told sales rep I needed the toy PB to make a light for my new e-reader. They asked which one. Showed them my Xteink X4 & they lit up! They plan to buy one & were thrilled to play with it!
Due to the absense of cloud-related friction, sunrise over #Vancouver Fairview should occur notably faster this morning.
Vancouver mayoral candidate Scott Gilbert in his campaign RV (Residence Vehicle) driving down West Broadway. #affordableHousing #WheelEstate
Tuesday's sunrise over #Vancouver Fairview had a bit more eye appeal thanks to clouds.
Happy to see Turnabout consignment expand into former Zebra Club space on NW corner of 3100 block S. Granville but really hoped Turnabout would keep & extend Zebra's distinctive black & white paint job across both Turnabout storefronts. The beige is dull as F! #Vancouver
Shafts of sunlight beam thru the slight haze and puffy clouds, which are popping like corn over the morning's hot-looking sunrise. 5:50am & 6:01am respectively.
My cheap new Xteink X4 ereader has MANY virtues & few drawbacks. It lacks support for DRM & library ebooks & has no backlight. As a #Vancouver #homeless person I'm often low on light. Pending parts for proper solution I'm using bits from a broken lightsabre toy out of a dumpster.
CrossPoint makes the Xteink X4 e-paper ereader functional and fun! May try another firmware called WritingSlate that provides simple word processing and can allow a dual boot with the CrossPoint ereader firmware. #tech #Vancouver #homeless
Xteink X4 is great! Had to install Python in Windows to back up stock firmware (10 min). Went to CrossPoint website to overwrite stock with better, community-built CP firmware (2 mins). Filled microSD with DRM-free epub files. Put SD in X4. Diddled settings. Done! Much online help for techy bits. 😋
Another look at the disassembled disposable vape. Big Li-ion battery & big LED screen. Sure would like to get skilled enough to repurpose such useful stuff.
Toys arrived! Giant "thank you"s to #Vancouver Fairview residents who help me with delivery addresses etc! * Xteink X4 e-paper ebook reader built on rewritable ESP32 microcontroller ($70). * PikoKey mini HID keyboard ($15). And dumpster-dived disassembed disposable vape.
#Vancouver Fairview resident put out 4 cans of "Nutro Hearty Stew" dog food. BBD 2027. Ingredients r better than Puritan Stew! But FDA is investigating link tween dog foods like Nutro & doggie Dilated Cardiomyopathy due to potatoes & legumes. But potatoes & legues aren't implicated in DCM in people!
I should add that Live Transcribe is available free for all Android phones but only built-in on Google Pixel phones & select Samsung phones (meaning Samsungs prefixed "S" not "A"). If it's not to be found on your Android phone Live Transcribe is a free download from the Play Store.
Homeless #Vancouver Fairview binner dragged a shopping cart loaded down with returnable glass bottles all the way to McD's hoping to get the cart's locked Gatekeeper II wheel unlocked. Not that I know how to do that. 🤪
Don't have the means to safely balance charge three 4-volt Li-ion batteries in series but evidence online *suggests* I may be able to test this LED headlight module with a cheap 9-volt alkaline battery. Be nice to know if LED &/or fan work.
This morning on #Vancouver #homeless dumpster-dived tech tear-down over breakfast: LED car headlamp module. 2 Torx screws hold it together. Inside: * Wee cooling fan. * Aluminum heat sink. * Two 2000-6000 lumen LEDs mounted either side of a copper bar. Draws 12v but LEDs use only 2-4v.
During their evening rushhour commute eastward out of #Vancouver Fairview crows like to take a breather on the construction crane of the moribund concrete skeleton of the bankrupt condo at 1125 Spruce St.
A Mobi Bikeshare bike (No. 30293) has been derelict in 1400 block of W Broadway, in #Vancouver Fairview, for maybe 2 weeks now! Was in front of Circle K at Hemlock, currently dumped on alley side of McD's at 1482 W Broadway. Mobi has been notified over on the Hellsite™.
Handsome Freightliner-like dumptruck has been running back & forth on #Vancouver's W Broadway since morning. Search shows it's made by Western Star Trucks, owned by Daimler & made in Portland. Wikipedia says Western Star trucks were built in #Kelowna, #BritishColumbia till 2002!
To wrap up the tale. I fundraised a total of $150 & the Rolser cost $110 with tax. Today I found the recipient - my #homeless #Vancouver peer Liese - & gave her remaining $40, which she can use given the rising cost of food & such. We both say "thank you" to the donors!
My #homeless peer is *very* stressed today & didn't want to be directly photographed. But the handover was accomplished & everything's now in the new Rolser & it's out with the old Canadian Tire shopping trolley.
On my way back to #Vancouver Fairview with the Rolser for my #homeless peer - Total cost: $110. It's nice-looking & tge bag is durable but frame & wheels disappoint me. Supposedly has a 3-yr warranty. Now, how do I hotwire this car?
In Kingsgate Mall. Waiting for Home Highlights to open.. I can see the Rolsers on the back wall...
Here's a photo of the Mount Pleasant bookstore @pfbvan.bsky.social.
In #Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood, waiting for Kingsgate Mall to open (I apparently have an hour-and-a-half to wait) but I wanted to be in as soon as the mall opened - that's how I Rol(ser)! 😅 Here's a photo of how you have to lock your bike up when there are NO bike racks.
The Crappy Tire shoppy trolley we bought my #homeless #Vancouver elder friend Liese in Jan is on it's last wheels! Want to raise $100 to buy her new trolley (Kingsgate Mall shop has Rolsers). After 30 nights at Belkin was kicked out & has had to go to Richmond for a shelter bed. Killing her cart!
