[Criticism 7] Lyrical Nanoha (entire franchise) The transformation scenes are needlessly contentious and it only gets worse with the movies. It's such an incongruous element next to otherwise great story, mechanical design, and action, and makes the franchise hard to love and harder to recommend.
[Criticism 6] Fullmetal Alchemist (manga) I love this series dearly but it never really seemed clear how something is or isn't a violation of the rules of alchemy, and making a philosopher's stone feels like a "bypass the rules to create a maguffin to bypass the rules". But I could just be dumb?
[Criticism 5] Dragon Ball Super I will never not love Dragon Ball but you fucked up a perfectly good Ultra Instinct by making it a transformation. Doubly so for the manga by letting Goku tap into that transformation at will. Absolute poetry reduced to a plaything. Not unexpected, but still bitter.
[Criticism 4] Getter Robo Devolution: The Last 3 Minutes of the Universe Given how it presents itself, it ends in a way that I personally feel is aesthetically and narratively inappropriate. In fairness, I'd call it "kosher" to Go Nagai/Ken Ishikawa, but I don't think it was a wise choice here.
[Criticism 3] Dr. STONE While the series was fundamentally "speedrun the tech tree" from the start, the latter half-ish of the manga takes that speedrunning to an absurd extreme. It gives off a vibe of "the author was told to wrap it up", and some of its sincere spectacle turns to show spectacle.
[Criticism 2] Star Driver: Radiant Takuto It's a show so painfully in-media-res, it's difficult to enjoy if you go into it with any other mindset than indulging in flashy, campy action. It's difficult to ignore that Takuto exists by necessity and wins by necessity, with little else going for him.
Let's start off strong! [Criticism 1] The King of Braves GaoGaiGar I loathe how unapologetically harsh the visuals can be. There are *so* many potential epilepsy and migraine triggers in this show (and its OP!) How can I share a beloved work if I have to preface it with a list of hazard warnings?
