TFW you follow a citation to crack open a "new" book (in this case, from 2003) and within two pages, you are overwhelmed with the thought: "what if this book exists as a warning to others"
My seven yr old was so proud of this line of his from when he was six that he made me type it and print it out amid today's fossil & rock labeling exercise.
Due to my profession and location, roughly 1/2 my feed is this right now: "A blast with our team at the Stampede last night. I've never seen a steer, never rode a horse but I did wear a hat and boots to review our legislative priorities with Premier Smith over pancakes. That's us in the 3rd row!"
Don't think I've ever seen an ad about immigration fraud before...?

Cracked open @masonbwilliams.bsky.social's second book on NYC history. I'm a fan of his first, and cite it a couple of times in my own unfinished project, so I'm curious to see what's next. Of course I immediately turned to his pages on the Fiscal Crisis and they pass my ok-that's-not-crazy test -

End of an era / beginning of an era in DT Winnipeg: I stopped to get an espresso in Parlour after walking to work, and it was closed! And then I looked next door, and... Holy hell, it's open next door! Same coffee, more space, less austere vibe. Staff are pumped.
Winnipeg City Hall: end of an era as 12-yr City Councillor and current Public Works Chair Janice Lukes announces she will be retiring from City Hall at the end of this term in 2026. Before she was elected, Lukes was also a strong advocate at City Hall for trails and green space throughout Winnipeg.

This part cracks me up. Yeah, no shit, agglomeration happened, and continues, in the City-Region. For all the reasons stated. But also, understated: the region ("Greater Manchester Combined Authority") wasn't even created until mid-2011. 'Manchesterists' only controlled the central city until then.
