Last week, the UN reported that the Israeli military has been deliberately targeting children throughout the genocide, and that 30% of those killed in Gaza were children. These findings from the UN are devastating but not surprising.
In my latest Substack, I wrote about the terrifying convergence of Christian and Jewish Zionist justification for ever-escalating war and genocide.
A couple of weeks ago while in New York, I visited with Dottie, a treasured JVP member, beloved movement elder and dear friend.
Still kvelling over what our movements made possible. More thoughts to come but all my love to the organizers in NYC for such a historic victory, especially to DRUM Beats, CAAAV Voice, NYCC, NYC DSA, and of course JVP Action for throwing down for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social from the very beginning.
I’m so pleased to introduce, The Voice Memo — a Substack focused on the evolving landscape of Palestine solidarity from my perspective as JVP’s Executive Director. I’ll offer analysis and insight into what the current political moment means for our work at JVP, the broader movement, and beyond.
Shana Tovah to all celebrating! May our work in the coming year bring us closer to liberation and each other.
Incredibly relieved to hear Mahmoud Khalil will finally be released after over 3 months in ICE detention, where he was denied even the right to witness his child's birth. ICE abducted Mahmoud from his home in March because he spoke out for Palestinian freedom and an end to Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
A few months ago, I took a walk with my son in an old growth forest near our home.
My heart is so full. I just spent the last four days in Baltimore at the JVP National Member Meeting with over 2000 beloved members and brilliant partners getting clear on how we will meet this moment, resist repression, and advance the struggle for Palestinian freedom.
I had the chance to speak directly to JVP members last week at Power Half Hour about what we as organizers can do as the Israeli military once again escalates into all-out genocide against Palestinians, and I wanted to share those words here.
We will not allow this to become normal. The Trump regime is trying to crush dissent beginning with those who speak out for Palestinian freedom. This is a threat to all who believe in justice. Tell Congress to protect students & demand Mahmoud’s release: bit.ly/freemahmoudnow
This Saturday, DHS/ICE kidnapped and detained Palestinian student activist Mahmoud Khalil, an Algerian citizen of Palestinian descent with legal permanent residence in the U.S.
The U.S. has shredded international law by providing the Israeli government with unconditional funding for genocide and shielding it from any accountability. This helped create the conditions for an authoritarian like Trump to dismantle everyone’s rights and democracy itself, with complete impunity.
I’m grateful to see over 350 Jewish rabbis, celebrities, and other leaders raising their voices against the Trump-Netanyahu plan to ethnically cleanse Gaza with this full page ad in The New York Times. To join them, go to SayNoToEthnicCleansing.org
