The family of Stephen Ogilvie have issued a statement:
“We are completely devastated by the horrific attack on our loved one on Kinnaird Avenue. This has been a massive shock to our whole family, and right now, our only priority is being at his bedside and helping him recover.
“We have witnessed a lot of false information circulating on social media which is now forcing us to clarify that our loved one is in fact in a stable condition, and we are solely focused on his recovery at this time.
“We are also appealing to the media and the public to please give us some space. We need privacy to focus on our family right now, without cameras or people speculating about what happened via social media.
“We have been left feeling disgusted by the scenes that unfolded yesterday across Northern Ireland in the wake of what happened. We want to make it absolutely clear that to do this in response is not supported by our family, and peaceful protest is only ever the way forward. We have many migrants who make a deeply valuable contribution to our country, including from within our healthcare system and hospitality sector, and we depend on them to make our country work. We do not want this terrible tragedy to be used to divide people or fuel hostility - do not do this in the name of our loved one as we do not share the same values.
“We also wish to say a profound thank you to the local people who bravely stepped in during the attack. Your quick actions absolutely saved his life, and we will never forget what you did for him in that moment. We also want to thank the emergency services and the doctors and nurses looking after him.
“If you know anything at all about the attack, or saw anything strange near Kinnaird Avenue, please go to the police and stop sharing false information on social media, as it is deeply distressing.
“Thank you for respecting our privacy."

The British government, parties and MPs, all, continue to prop up Elon Musk's social media platform. Musk's re-posting got blue-tick Tommy Robinson another 7.8 million views, inciting violence against innocent families and their homes on the streets of Belfast. The UK doesn't need X.

I've seen first hand, this fake revival with its fake self-righteous grin, the grifters and fake symbols stoking up the rhetoric of hate, driving real Christians out of their churches. Who in their right mind would rub shoulders with these hateful bigots?

Just a cursory glance at the state of the world would leave anyone feeling like a nihilist, but it’s Gen Z that’s truly been given the rough end of the deal. House prices have trebled over the last 20 years, rents have increased by 7.8% in the last 12 months and inflation has been higher than the Bank of England’s target. Meanwhile, wage growth has effectively stagnated, with the Office of National Statistics noting wages are at the level they were at in 2005. It has resulted in a generation that feels stunted, fenced off from the more conventional lifestyle of a home and two children (a study by the University of Southampton found more than 25% of Gen Zs did not want, or probably won’t have, children).

Workers at the UK branch of Google’s AI lab, DeepMind, have voted to unionise – partly in a bid to resist deals with the US and Israeli militaries.

The workers wrote to management on Tuesday to request the Communication Workers Union and Unite the Union be recognised as their representatives, after voting to unionise in April. Google finalised a new deal to supply DeepMind technologies to the Pentagon last week.

“I have joined the union due to concerns about AI being used to empower authoritarianism, whether through military or surveillance applications, both foreign and domestic,” one worker told the Guardian.

“Our technology helped the IDF,” another worker said, referring to Google’s sale of DeepMind services to Israel’s military. “I want AI to benefit humanity, not to facilitate a genocide.”

The company’s work with Israel’s military, which has slaughtered tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza while committing numerous other atrocity crimes, has sparked the No Tech for Apartheid campaign.

The campaign aims to put an end to Project Nimbus, a $1.2bn agreement that Google and Amazon made with Israel to supply its military and government with cloud computing services.

As part of the agreement, Israel reportedly demanded that both companies sidestep their legal obligations in other countries by secretly warning the apartheid state when they were made to share Israeli data with any courts.

The Pentagon confirmed on Friday that it had reached deals with DeepMind and several other AI companies, including SpaceX, OpenAI, Nvidia, Reflection, Microsoft and Amazon Web Services.

“These agreements accelerate the transformation toward establishing the United States military as an AI-first fighting force and will strengthen our warfighters’ ability to maintain decision superiority across all domains of warfare,” the US department of war said in a statement.
